It is not very often that the defenders get a mention in the write ups.
I am interested in your views of the current defensive options open to Tommy?

Hi Pete, One of the facts of life I’m afraid. People like to see Goals, and it’s more often than not the “Brylcreem Boys” up front that take the plaudits, particularly in victory. For me , defending is an art - after all, keep a clean sheet and you’re not beat ! In the modern game so much more is required of a defender. Not only strength, good header of a ball, and putting your foot through the thing (and the odd lump out of the guy your marking) but also athleticism, pace, the ability to play from the back and read a game. I was privileged to live through the “Graham Era” at Arsenal. Although not possessing some of the attributes above, the “Bank of England” of Winterburn, Bould, Adams and Dixon (not forgetting Seamo behind) were a joy to watch - and to your point, what were we labelled –BORING Satisfaction for a defender, is knowing he done his job for the side. Long live the guys in the trenches ! By the way, after last night it should also be remembered any good side defends THROUGHOUT the side 1- 11. We are a good side - so come on lads, lets get back on the front foot for Saturday!

Has somebody died or have the Town just lost their first football match for many weeks.
It seems that this is the week for cup upsets up and down the country.
Nearer to home, I listened to a BBC Radio interview with the Andover manager last Saturday.
He said, all they had to do was just turn up at their cup replay and that they were certain winners. They lost the replay at home 2-1!

Talking of mentions.
Nice plaudit from the Totton Manager on Pitchside. (I know this wins you nowt, but come on, it's still nice to see).
“The league is still very strong, and the likes of Poole and Fareham are very good sides”
O.K. we’ve lost a couple of good players of late, injuries have had an impact on being able to play a settled side and the last couple of results have been very frustrating – but since promotion the strides taken have been substantial. With perhaps a couple of quality proven players in, PTFC should at least be in the mix.
On another subject, shame about the perimeter not being enclosed at Tatnam. I counted at least "£60" watching from the wrong side of the fence on Saturday – every little bit helps!
