Have a look at page 4 of today’s Non League Paper for a positive item about TK. I have asked it before will now, use this thread, to ask it again. If not Tom Killick then who do you want as Poole Town manager? I can't think of anyone who would want the job. As after the Dolphins first defeat, under the new boss , certain people on here would be calling for the return of Tom Killick. If isn't perfect as we all know. But no one is. Just think without TK the DFA might have gone bust. His fines keep it going & then some 😉

It's about keeping the faith, I and a lot on here have with TK in charge... After all its some record TK has as manager and I remember with great fondness him playing for the dolphins at the Stadium in the late eighties so I never doubt his commitment for our great club...

At the moment I don't know who I would want to take over if TK goes. If I could compare scenarios, I would compare it to the situation at Arsenal when Wenger was there. And I can see something similar here at Poole. Tom has enough in the bank to leave on his own terms, do I think he should leave? That's not for me to say, and certainly not my decision to make, thankfully. Have i at times wanted him to go? I'd be a liar if i said i didn't at times this season, but that being said I'm a fan, my emotions tend to over rule my sanity. I love this club, and i respect the job Tom has done and continues to do with the resources he has. I think he's earnt the right to call time on his tenure at Poole should he choose to do so. Tom Killick, the Non league Arsene Wenger..... I'm sure Tom wouldn't mind being compared to him? ;-)

Any genuine Dolphin fan must hold and always should do. T.K. in high regard. What he has done for this club as manager can not be challenged, however as I have said before, everyone has their limits and unfortunately I think T.K. has reached his. Personally, I believe, he has proved he is an exceptional manager but at his own level. I do not believe he has the tactical ability, or man management skills to be able to take and keep the club, further than our current level or even beyond. Is it time to change style and direction by giving someone else a chance? I for one think so. Ideally someone who, at least as a player, had a professional background and contacts at that level. Who that should be, who can say, but if you don't look, you'll never know what's out there.

Spot on pooletownsnr. Tom is not the problem - lack of money, a poor quality ground and one which keeps getting too many postponements leading to a fixture backlog are the real problems.I'm no expert, but if anyone's job is on the line, I'd say it should be the groundsman!
So many promotions in a row meant that the club did not keep up off the field, and really when you think about it, that isn't surprising. No-one expected the rise to be as fast as it was, and everyone was preparing for consolidation, not the promotion push of two years ago.
Please remember that we were told we were not eligible for promotion because our ground was not good enough. Was this fair?- yes I believe so, no matter how unpalatable that is to any supporter. The rules were a little obscure and difficult to understand, but at the end of the day, if you have hardly any seating, then how can you expect to get promotion and host the cream of the non-league, including ex-league clubs who would bring hundreds of supporters to away games.
However, in the season after being denied promotion, how do you then try and build a team for another promotion push when the threat of being denied again due to the ground is ever present. Player recruitment, retention and player motivation become massive issues. The good players won't sign and the good ones at the club want to leave. Tom remained steadfastly loyal when things went pear shaped last season - he could have easily blamed the board and the ground for what was happening, but he saw the big picture and stayed loyal to the club.
If changes are needed, it has to be to try and get either a new ground or this one upgraded in terms of the pitch, the seating and the ground capacity, and to make sure that there are no more postponements than other clubs get, due to the wet causing drainage issues.
Outside finance is the key, but getting that is a massive issue. I genuinely wonder whether Harry Redknapp might be interested in taking over the club and putting in a few quid - has anyone asked him, or indeed attempted approaching any football fans from millionires row in Sandbanks. There must be a lot of people with a lot of money who could help, and surely there must be someone who hob nobs with the money men and women.
If Tom left, I'd appoint Taffy straight away - I'd love to see how he would fare as a manager, but I'd much rather have Tom and him steering the ship together. The analogy with Arsene Wenger may seem appropriate to some, but Wenger became stuck in his ways, making the same mistakes year in year out, whereas if anything, Tom last season made too many changes, attempting changing styles of football and trying new training methods. Arsene in the end got so stuck in his ways that he was an embarrassment to most Gooners, and that is the last thing that Tom is. He is the main reason that the club isn't still stuck in obscurity in the Wessex League.

Nothing any groundsmen could about Tatnum the problem is the pipe work to the stream on council owned land it’s bent so much so instead of water flowing there it’s just sitting and flowing back to the pitch. Chris Kelly is up against it every time and puts hours into Tatnum for next to no cost.

Is not a spokesman for the club on this but I will say what I know.
This summer we had a really dry summer and with the money raised by the Pitch Fund together with a larger amount from some of the directors, a new irrigation system was installed to get the pitch ready for the season. This meant the pitch was just about perfect in August whereas many pitches took some weeks more.
There is a plan to improve drainage, in additiin to the work Phil mentions above, but it would have to have been done first. As it involved substantial damage to the pitch, in addition to the sun damage it was not really possible.
Of course there was also the problem of finance. It was a struggle to raise the money for the irrigation system and the extra drainage would have cost at least as much again.
So we will soon re-launch the pitch sponsorship for this season. Just watering the pitch costs around £12,000 per season so every penny helps.

If not it would be silly to waste that much money on something that we would potentially have to give up

In my defence, I hardly said sack the groundsman. Neither did I say replace TK with Taffy. Some of you must have reading problems. Read my post in full and don't take either line out of context.
What I said was that we shouldn't sack TK and that I would prefer the TK and Taffy coaching team to continue.
I don't get Settman's comments that we have found our level and should be happy with that - Poole is a big place, bigger than say Forest Green and a similar size to many clubs in League Two, and every fan should want us to get promotion and push to get bigger; we could easily be a league club if we had a rich sugar daddy or loads of money at the club.
I also said, the pitch is inadequate - being at sea level shouldn't mean it is waterlogged as much as it is - if that is an excuse, then how come other coastal teams don't have the amount of pitch problems we have. Being near the sea doesn't excuse waterlogged pitches.
In previous years, the amount of postponements have cost of us promotion - in my opinion this has been our biggest problem- we have been going well and then gradually have had so many postponements that we are having to play twice as many games as anyone else.
I guess for those who have never played football, but just stand on the touchline eating pies and screaming at players that they are not trying, it must seem strange that footballers can't play well for two or three matches every week at the end of the season, but for anyone who has ever attempted to do this, you will realise that your legs are nowhere near as fresh when you are playing every two or three days and every niggling injury is magnified.
You can't have 15 matches to play at the end of the season, when everyone else has seven or eight and expect to maintain form and position - TK or any coach would tell you that.
In summary, the postponements cost us dearly a couple of years ago, and having played so many matches less than our rivals, with lots of postponements means that the ground is still an issue.
If it isn't the groundsman's fault (and in my original post I said I was no expert), then either we do need to channel loads of money into sorting it out, or it is yet another reason why our ground isn't fit for purpose.
Anyway this post is relevant - TK is not the problem - our finances and our ground are.

No where did i say we have found our level and that we should be happy with that. I did say maybe we have found our level, whats wrong with that.. We have a small ground not suitable for the football league and we dont have the finances,im sure the fans of Yeovil or Macclesfield arent expecting to be in the premier league within the next 5 years. And for the record you put the blame for the pitch which has cost us promotion at the groundsmans feet with an exclamation mark... I never said you said he should be sacked. Its people like you with ridiculous criticism that make people walk away, maybe you coukd get down to the ground early and offer some advice to those trying to get the pitch in a good condition

This thread was only intended to give PTFC supporters an opportunity to read a positive NLP article about Tom. I wonder how many did.
We all know about the shortcomings of Tatnam and the limitations that has had on the club for many years none of which are the fault of the groundsman who does an excellent job for the club. We also know about our uncertain future. I am on record as saying that the SLP was as high as I'd care for the club to go. But that was before they reorganised it.
I suggest we leave this debate now unless we have something positive or constructive to say about our manager.

No it lies at the door of Poole Borough Council. Do do draconian regulations that we can't open our club house whenever we want, meaning our budget to pay players is severely limited compared to our neighbours in Dorset and in general all other clubs in our division.

Thank you TK for making things clear regards your playing staff much appreciated. As you said you do look on the forum now and again and regards your good self being avaliable if us supporters have a question or issue to ask you would it or could it be a questions and answers session maybe a few times a season ??.I feel it would be beneficial to have management and supporters together more.We all appreciate on matchdays you and your staff are busy and with the club not being able to use the bar facilities other than matchdays it can be quite difficult to get us two parties together.Just a suggestion.
