Woke up this morning, phoned my mates to tell them what time I would pick them up to go to football. Having fulfilled my matrimonial duties (that's going shopping in case you're wondering) I duly set off at 1 o'clock to pick them up.
Whilst travelling through Salisbury, we could see a game in progress on the old Salisbury pitch. On the school pictches at Old Sarum there were 2 football matches and 2 rugby matches in progress. We then arrived at the Recreation Ground at Amesbury at about 2.20 p.m. only to find that the game had been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Far be it from me to question the abilities of the ground staff at Amesbury, but the pitch didn't look any worse than in previous games that we've played there.
Rather than waste the entire afternoon, we decided to go back to Salisbury FC and watch their game but at £7.50 per head for a game that was already underway, we opted to go to Downton instead. We watched their Reserve side playing Brockenhurst Reserves. Between the 3 of us, we spent £10 on entrance fees and cups of tea. We only watched 20 minutes of the game and then decided to head back to Ringwood and see if they were playing at home.
On arriving at Ringwood, the second half had just begun against Blackfield & Langley. We watched the remainder of the game before heading home.
My point is that we witnessed at least 5 football matches and 2 rugby matches in progress along the way and yet Amesbury (for the second year running) didn't feel able to play in inclement weather.
Oh well, that's my moan for the day. I must go now and fulfill my other matrimonial duty (that's washing the dishes to you lot)!
Merry Christmas to you all.
