As we stood inside the clubhouse, by the door after the final whistle looking at the results screen, the players filed in one by one. All received their congratulations, including the goal scorer Culli, who replied with 'Thanks for your support'. No, thank you Culli for the icing on the cake that came in the third minute when Hubbard's corner met your bonce and spun up over the keeper's reach to come down just inside the top angle and into the net.
Poole went straight at their opponents from the 'off' and the goal looked like the first of many as they piled forward. We were without the suspended Charlie and also the vast experience of Skelton and Stuart Brown so Tommy elected to play Culli upfront as a lone striker. Culli nearly netted a second when he hit a superb strike from outside the box which was met by an equally superb save from their keeper as he touched the ball onto the bar.
It didn't go all Poole's way though as Newport themselves had a few good chances up the other end, and to be fair to both sides the constant over night rain had made for a very heavy pitch. Sturgess and Taffy along with hubbard,Gilly and Billy worked hard and scrapped away. Credit must also go to The defence who kept yet another clean sheet.
In the second half there were a few chances, one of which fell to substitute Smithy when the ball was touched on by Taff after a good move from Gilly, but the keeper gathered. With 20 minutes to go, gee'd on by shouts from the Poole fans, the team had to dig in as the heavy pitch took it's toll on weary legs. The crowd behind the goal sensed this and broke into several renditions of " COME ON POOLE TOWN, COME ON POOLE TOWN " It seemed to help encourage the players and with Jason showing good command of his area and confident handling the final whistle blew.
Well Done Lads - Team and Support!!

Great result, absolutely delighted myself and especially for the fans that made the trip to IOW!
Good to hear there was an atmosphere created by the Poole fans, gave the players a boost I am certain.
Keep it up!

Well if you remember M3, I was one of 5/6 or so lads cheering Poole on that day and was delighted with the atmosphere conjured up. The Wimborne chav element didn't know what had hit them - that you can actually chant and sing without f'ing and blinding every 2 seconds! True supporters.. I'll be at Luton home that day.. but as soon as I get home I'm logging on for the result. Tomorrow first, Brading, bring it on! COME ON.

Yes I remembered the Wimborne chants AFCB, nice one. Tomorrow we all might have to combine forces to cheer the lads on.

m3 your reports are becoming more and more descriptive. I'm sure I could almost smell the embrocation in the changing rooms and hear the seagulls overhead. Can't wait for the next.

;D Ha slepe, I try to keep to basics as I know there's a comprehensive report after each game on the home page.
Thinking back this is the fourth clean sheet now on the trot and we seem to have a good blend in defence with the experience of Lamin and Simon Browne. Then of course having Poore back is like having a fresh quality signing. Also full credit needs to go to Lukey, he was ever present last season and after the disappointment of failing to gain promotion he's kept himself fully fit and prepared both physically and mentally. His committed attitude is first class.

Providing I make the trip, I hope I do, I'll be behind the goal joining in any chants! I usually make a lot of chants at AFCB. Don't know if I have the bottle to at PTFC mind. Was there a roof over your heads at Newport? Bet the sound was louder if so; food for thought if you ever wanted to make Tatnam very atmospheric, gather up under the roof and sing your heart out. However, behind the goal is always fun and the ability to switch ends is great. !

Yes, Newport was a tidy little ground with some cover behind each goal, hopefully we could have the same at Poole one day. In the meantime it's good to see the numbers grow and take each game as it comes, I'm sure as more come along the atmosphere will build. Some of the lads on the way home from Newport were talking about following the England cricket team abroad and the good times with the 'Barmy Army'. It would be cool if we can get a similar sort of following going and as you mentioned in another thread, without the swearing that accompanies other teams. Eat, Drink be merry and enjoy the day with the 'Poole Town Barmy Army'.

Hopefully my house renovations and health issues will be sorted for next season and will be joining The Barmy Army on a few rail excursions. Following Plymouth around used to be hilarious, sitting in a pub in Fulham watching farmers from Devon and Cornwall having an International Dominos Match against each other was priceless Think we've got a lot of good people who would easily get this going.
