Where Is Benito. I think its time. I know what Doug & Steve might say, its early in the season, new players new manager etc, were only 2 points behind the leaders but. Surely every one agrees that things have to improve. Were losing against poor sides and our performances have been bad. Players dont seem to getting on with squables in the 1st team and reserves. I know it takes time to gel but with the players we have signed we should have enough quality to win matches in our league even if were not playing to our potential.

Hi Mark, I have been watching the situation closely and here are some of my thoughts (for what they are worth) I agree with Steve L the team assembled is 'good on paper' but they don't seem to get on. (1) I have heard foul and very abusive language directed at one another, (2) The wrong players being selected or not (in the case of Mr. Harvell) (3) Poor discipline all round, (Boris after being subbed at S'bury) I thought we had enough of that last season. Alright Tommy is new in the job and we must be patient but the worrying thing is the crowds I was at the Hornden game and I think the crowd was Pooles Lowest ever (somebody can correct me if I am wrong) that will not do! I have heard through the grapevine a rumour about the proposed new stand, that it will only be started (ready for next season IF we are in the top three at X'Mas) I don't know how true that is but it seems to me if that is true the club are not like most fans thinking ahead. What if we put a run together finish second and have no stand in place, who do you think we come next season for another dose of Wessex Two? This 'blip' must come to an end quickly. Up the Town.

This is the best team that we,ve had for some time, just get behind them and Im sure we,ll be in the top 2 at the end of the season. I certainly trust Tommy to get it right more than previous managers, and Im sure that if players dont perform then he,ll bring new players in. Aaron Turner and Staurt Brown have both signed in the last week.
We are not playing well and confidence is down, but we are 2 points behind top of the table, we have better players than we had last season, a better manager, and a great reserve team with some promising young players.

Guys, Just adding my thoughts after the lack of performance over the last few games. You'll notice I wait a couple of days before putting my match reports up after we lose as I always need time to calm down a bit!! Best team for a while? Potentially yes but not at the moment. Best players for a while - definitely - but they simply are NOT playing as a team. I know a few people have commented on the continuing squabbling, abuse etc and it's about time the Club listened because this has been going on for far too long and I know for a fact that supporters are absolutely sick and tired of hearing Poole players screaming obscenities at each other. Where is the team spirit? At last night's game I listened to Taffy Richardson spend 90 minutes whining away at the referee and taking the p**s out of Moneyfield players. Now for someone with his ability and reputation it was a joke. He was brought in as a role model for the younger players to look up to and learn from. And yes - they certainly learnt from him last night. The fact that Moneyfields took the p**s out of Taff and the rest of the team by running rings round them for 90 minutes was a fitting response in my opinion. This lack of discipline and team spirit has got to be sorted as a priority and if the so called star players can't do that then I'd rather see 'lesser' players come in who actually want to play the game in the right manner even if it meanss us finishing lower down the table. Surely the reason we pay our money is so we can ENJOY the team play - win, lose or draw. There really isn't much to enjoy at the moment........................ For a team with an increasingly dodgy defence I do find it surprising that we stick with 3 at the back. We played 4-4-2 in some pre-season games and I thought we had a lot more balance. Also, Matty Welsh and Ollie Cherrett (Cherrett especially) have not put a foot wrong all season. Are there reasons why both have been missing recently (holidays, suspension???). Both were on the bench last night and Cherrett came on as a striker. I'd personally feel a whole lot happier to see them both in a four man defence alongside Spalding and Woodward. Now having said all that................. I have 100% faith in Tommy getting it sorted (as do all fans I think). We desperately need Turner and Warrington to get fit and add something up front as currently we just don't look like beating anyone except ourselves. As for the usual WDWGFH question, well, the answer to that is simple. We do what we always do - we go to the next game, we get behind the team and do ALL that we can to help them come out of this patch and get back to playing good football. And at the end of the day - that's what we love doing!! And as for the crowds dropping - well my wife is having our first child next Monday so at least I'll be swelling the crowds by one more over the coming weeks / months / years (whether he / she wants to go or not!!!!!) And Benito - you'l see from here www.poole-town.fsnet.co.uk/team_stats.htm that the 74 against Horndean isn't quite the lowest (though getting there!) Up the Dolphins! Steve B

... but by all accounts you had a lower attendence than at Turlin Moor for Borough's game against Gillingham Town on the same day.

As usual Steve talks sense. It's a bit strange that the problems we are having this season are similar to those last season but with different players (or is it?). They have had quite a few games now to make an assessment and the verdict has to be that there are quite a few players there who just aren't good enough for Wessex League 2. They have played too badly for too long for it just to be a question of gelling. The Moneyfields game highlighted the fact that Poole are too slow in defence and attack and lack the skill in midfield to open up defences. It will take Tommy a while to turn it round and I hope he has the willpower and ability to do it or it will eventually reflect badly on him. Stuart Brown looks a good signing, but he is effectively playing up front on his own. Also agreed that Welsh and Cherett have looked good and Funnell has impressed at times. A sub text here may be does anyone want us to be in the top 3 at Xmas?

I'd love to know who told you this rumour - I know it's not true.
I hesitate to start naming people because (1) I'll miss someone out and (2) the people involved never seek any recognition for their efforts, but Chris has been and is putting in a huge amount of time and effort to keep this moving, i.e. making sure the council understand the urgency involved, having meetings with them (a recent one was also attended by John Curtis), completing the lengthy paperwork needed for grant applications etc., etc...
Just reading all the correspondence with the council wears me out.
Also, none of this effort depends on our position in the league (in fact, we need to get it done just to stay in Wessex 2 beyond 2006, so league position is irrelevant).
Given the effort being made, it's bordering on being offensive to accuse the club of not thinking ahead, or even worse, Rob, that we might want the club not to be in a position to get promotion (much as I love a good conspiracy theory).
Constructive suggestions for speeding the process of getting permission/funding for the stand and offers of help are welcome, of course.
Rant over - happy to discuss this over a beer at Wareham tomorrow.

I do know who Benito is - he's a loyal and long-term "home and away" Poole supporter who's rightly frustrated by performances on the pitch this season (but not as frustrated as Tom, I'll wager).
I think his frustration about off the field developments is misplaced, however, and couldn't let the rumours and criticism of others go unanswered.

Thanks Doug, Steve,Mark & Rob all pretty contructive comments I think this thread has got a lot things of a lot of peoples chests and I hope we can all feel slightly better for it. As for SJ not knowing who Benito is and who gives a **** well I do give a **** and if you want to know who I am I'm the big bloke with the quiff and I would be quite happy to meet you and discuss your assumption that I know nothing about football.

My throw away remark about not wanting to be in the top 3 was not really meant seriously. Just to highlight the fact that we never seem to get much official information about what is happening so rumours will be the order of the day. What is going on off the field is more important than what is happening on it at the moment. Constructive suggestion - I think Steve could easily put a section on the website to update on off field developments without giving away too many inner secrets.

My point!
How does it feel feel when I make throw away comments that you know nothing about football. Not nice I pressume from your response.
It probably feels the same for the people that run Poole Town and your comments/questioning on there drive to get promotion have a stand etc perhaps is not what it should be.
I disagreeumption and your assumption are on different topics yet my point is that people should not make assumptions that they have no founding for, otherwise people feel hurt/let down when the fact is probably the complete opposite. For example, you probably know alot about football and the people that run Poole are doing everything they can t make this club go places.
As for the fact you are a big bloke and have a quiff (flock of seagulls) how nice I am sure you are.
