My dear old dad lived in Poole up to 1959 and last resided by the Gas works in Yarmouth Road. He mentioned that Poole Town FC used to play along Alder Road and now there are bungalows built on the site. Is this true or is he getting confused ? What is the history of where the team have played other than the old Stadium, Tatnam and sharing for a couple of years at Hamworthy. I think Sterte is mentioned in the programme.
Also I have recently been building a family tree and my father's side of the family have lived in the Poole area for many generations, my father being an ex-pupil of Poole Grammar School. It seems I can go back to the 1700's and can also find evidence of the family name being amongst those that left on the boat for Newfoundland. Does anyone know the name of the boat or a link to a possible site about this voyage ? Thanks.

So did my dear old dad neutral1 and I was born and brought up in Poole. The Alder Road ground was in fact Bournemouth Gasworks sports and football ground and a very good one it was too before the profit motive ensured it's redevelopment into housing. I used to live in Douglas Road, Parkstone not far from the Alder Road ground and, later, in Alder Road itself. My dad played for Carter's Athletic, Bournemouth Gasworks and Poole Town in that order up to the late 1930s. He talked about grounds such as Breakheart Lane and other sites. You must read John Powell's book "The History of Poole Town 1890-2005". I bought my copy from the club social bar at Tatnam for £8.00. Can't help with the family tree though, "neutral1" is an unusual name after all!!!!!

greetings from San clemente, California, Beautiful place and weather on the Pacific. I too went to PGS from 56-61. As far as I know Breakheart Lane according to my Dad was in the shah of persia area on what is now Verulam Rd. My late uncle was a director of PTFC in the Rickaby Days. His son is still with us and I am sure can clear up some of the points. Yes get that team song going...up. up and away!!

Your dad is right about Breakheart Lane expat. I remember the Rickaby days as well and I went to PGS 1952-60. You should come to the re-union some of the lads (some from PGS, Police Club Boys FC, Longfleet ST Marys etc etc) hold in late October each year at the Blue Boar in old Poole. It's a good and if you remind me I'll send you the details for 2008 as soon as I get them. Cold be a bit expensive for you - it's not cheap coming from where I live!!!
Do get the book neutral1, you won't regret it.
