::)What should have been a good game between two evenly matched sides, was spoilt as a spectacle by the very strong winds.

On Merit, and but for some bad luck Poole should have got something from this game, we carved out some spectacular chances, courtesy of Andy Culliford on 40 minutes when he hit the bar with a cracking drive from 30 yards, that had the keeper well beaten, and again on the hour when Culli hit a first time shot from the edge of the area that nearly snuck in at the far post, but for the keeper who pulled off a good save.
It was always going to be difficult in the swirling wind, and to be fair Poole played the better football in the first half with some quick exchange passing on the floor, Steve Smith on 15 minutes was through but was tugged back by the last defender before being bundled over, Unfortunately every one saw it except the ref and the lino. Totton's only real chance of the first half was a shot that was blocked after some good work by Whitley.
At half time I was confident we would get something from the game after seeing us take the lions share in the first, but unfortunately we couldn't get the ball down on the ground to repeat the first 45 minutes. Totton's goal came after a small spell of pressure which saw Arthur make a good low down save but three minutes later he looked to be infringed and the ball broke to a Totton player who hooked it into an empty net.
We toiled on, however the game became a stop-start affair. Ayres replaced Stevo and Osbourne replaced Holmes in a vain effort to shake things up, and it looked to pay off in the last few minutes when Rico who had pushed up recieved the ball in the penalty area, he turned between two defenders and shot at what looked a certain goal, but the keeper pulled off a great save. One small concern was a couple of players who lost the ball and seemed to give up straight away, in contrast Hogan calls on every ounce of energy to reach every ball, fantastic effort which really shows the benefits of chasing every lost cause. Keep going lads, it ain't over yet!! And so to Ringwood this Tuesday evening.

All we can do now Brian is keep knocking out the three points from every game. Tuesday sees some interesting fixtures so it might all change yet again.

:oI am disappointed tbh, but to be fair to both sets of players, it was so hard to get out of that far half against the wind
Still ;D footy has a habit of throwing up some strange results, take todays FA Cup results for example.
So let's just keep our fingers crossed
As an after thought, heard the Branksome Rec rumour again today, anyone got any info on the project?
Steve, care to comment?

Please....not Branksome Rec!! Maybe one of those Russian Oil barons fed up with Chelsea could help us keep THE TOWN IN POOLE!! I know I am going to hear all the old arguments against The Stadium but is there a better location, I'm not talking about the present state of it, however it is located close to all routes coming into Poole, has existing facilities and yes, it has some history. Barnsley showed the football world today that what it all boils down to in the end is determination and PTFC need that on and off the field!! UP THE TOWN!!

With regards to all these 'rumours' doing the rounds - they are just that. rumours. Over the last few years there are constant rumours that the Club is going to 'x' or going to 'y'. I can think of 2 or 3 similar places in Poole mentioned in the last few years. It only needs one person to mention a location and suddenly everyone thinks it is a done deal and we're off. We've all been disappointed enough times to not place too much store by the rumours that do come out.
In the last 6 years we have turned a bare pitch at Tatnam into the resemblance of a proper football club. New floodlights, new stand, hard standing, barriers, clubhouse (of sorts) etc etc. And a good lease which secures our future. I can't think of any other local team that has managed to progress that far in such a short space of time. And all effort is going in to improving the facilities that we have at Tatnam. There are plans to ensure the ground can meet Southern League standards should we manage to gain promotion.
IF (and it is a big 'if') another suitable location is found within Poole that meets the requirements of everybody (Football Club, Council, residents etc) then proper channels will be followed and an announcement would be made - and I'll be happy to report anything worthwhile on this site.
With my Supporter's Club hat on, I know that the Directors of the Club are working flat out to provide facilities for Poole Town to gain promotion. I'm more than happy to leave that in their capable hands and I'd also like to confirm that they keep the Supporter's Club fully appraised of anything that is going on.
In the meantime, I'd suggest that all we can do is get behind the team every game and help them to the promotion spot. We'll see what happens after that.
All my own personal opinion (of course!) and for what it's worth my own opinion on the Stadium is that I would HATE us to go back there. Don't get me wrong I spent the late 70s and all of the 80s watching Poole there but I don't miss it one bit. It's a rundown wreck which could not house football due to the position of the speedway and greyhound track. Even if that was sorted there is NO atmosphere there - you sit 100 yards from the pitch and it's just not the sort of place I'd want to watch football anymore. It's a proud part of our past but that's where it should stay. You only need look at Dorchester Town and Weymouth's grounds to see how football grounds should be at this level nowadays.....................
Cheers,
Steve
