Can someone tell me how many teams get promoted at the end of the season? Looking at last season's final table it looks like just one - is this correct?

It seems that only one team will be promoted from the Wessex. My question is..........? What if the "top" team's ground is not up to standard. Will the place be passed to the team in second place?

Only 1 team, Are you sure about that? I think you will find that its the top 2 teams that get promotion.

But, I believe this season the competition for places has been much increased, so there will be more stringent ground assessments etc,. At the moment only Totton's ground looks OK, amongst the promotion contenders.

I am aware of the ground assessments problems Poole currently face, but Poole town have applied for promotion this year and if they finish inside the top 2 providing the necessary ground improvements are made we should be good to go. Fingers crossed. All being well all we need to do is finish inside the top 2 and beating Totton this weekend would almost certainly guarntee us a place in the top 2 come the end of the season.

STEP FIVE Promotion (12) Northern, North West Counties, Northern Counties East, Midland Alliance, United Counties, Eastern Counties, Essex Senior, Kent, Sussex, Combined Counties, Spartan South Midlands, Hellenic, Wessex, Western
(14 leagues currently. Possible adjustment to a total of 12 in the future)
Promotion from Step 5
It is being proposed that the following will operate at the end of season 2007/08. Yet to be confirmed by the FA. * 4 from the top 6 will be promoted from the Northern League. * The top 2 from the Midland Football Alliance will be promoted. * 9 further clubs from the other 12 step 5 leagues as detailed in the rules below. * Always assuming that the eligible clubs have applied and meet the ground grading requirements.
Original rules for promotion from Step 5 as published by the FA
Each of the step 5 leagues will nominate the club finishing in 1st position subject to meeting the entry criteria and wishing to be considered for promotion. In the event of the 1st placed club not being nominated, the club finishing in 2nd position can be nominated subject to the same criteria. Both the clubs relegated from Step 4 and the clubs to be promoted from Step 5 will be placed in a feeder pool and allocated to the most geographically appropriate league.
In the event that there are more clubs qualifying for promotion than spaces available, priority will be given to the Champion clubs in Step 5 leagues. If there remains vacancies, clubs finishing in 2nd place in Step 5 leagues will be ranked according to the average number of points gained per games played.
This is the rule as the FA have reported it. Finishing second is by no means a guarantee.

If this is correct and it certainly appears to be so, even finishing top does not guarentee promotion. We will need to finish top, and have everything in place (which I believe includes an enclosed ground) by the end of the season to stand any chance of going up. Is this possible?

If the decision depends on the ground, presumably, it would be worth making every effort to meet the requirements. If in deed the improvements are possible at Tatnam. There is of course the rumours of a pending move to a new ground. Presumably, the new ground would be built with promotion in mind and future proofed to allow even further progress. Not forgetting of course the finance for these improvements. There's a limit to what can be achieved on a small budget. So short term plans may have to be modest to ensure the long term is protected.

My concern is the time factor. If all the ground improvements have to be in place by the end of this season that is only next month, as all fixtures are to be played by the end of April. I can not see that we would be able to move to a new ground by then. I hope I am wrong

I think Poole have got the best, adaptable Clubhouse in Football. Put a set of wheels on it and we could even take it to away games. ;D The futures bright

;D ;D just to prove there is no such thing as bad publicity we are getting mentions by the Cherries faithful on the Echo website. IS IT TIME TO THINK BIG!!. Keep the pressure on the council and on Totton and Wimborne!! Build it and they will come.
