Being at a loose end, football wise, decided to make the short journey to see how this panned out. I saw a couple of faces from PTFC so I was not alone.
Wimborne started the brighter & had a few chances including two that the VTFC keeper made good saves to deny them. VTFC were not really in it for the first 15 mins but started to find their feet after this though their forwards weren't really getting anything together.
0-0 at half time.
Second half more even though chances were rarer. Wimborne forward through one on one with the keeper who did really well to get down at his feet as he tried to take the ball round him.
VTFC looked better second half & with 12 mins or so to go, their no.3 put a good cross over from the left touchline which bypassed the traffic in the middle of the Wimborne penalty area to find a team mate completely unmarked. His shot was parried by the keeper straight to another VTFC forward who prodded it home.
Four minutes later, a pass over the top of the Wimborne defensive line left a lone VTFC forward, who did well to keep the line & stay onside, through one on one with the keeper. Whereas Wimborne did not take their chance, VTFC did as he slotted the ball into the keepers right hand corner.
This about sums the game up. Two pretty evenly matched teams but VTFC took their chances & Wimborne didn't. A draw would have been a fairer result but I am sure Wimborne would feel they should have won.
One last thing, this is the first time I have been to the Cuthbury for a while &, standing on the allotment side, I was surprised to be reminded just how prominant the slope on the pitch is. Does anyone know if they would have to level it out any degree to meet ground grading requirements for promotion?
