With second against third,AFC Totton entertaining Wimborne, and Poole Venturing to Lymington looking for 3 points the three top teams of the division where within a 15 mile journey of each other,as the crow flies...but how would we stand come quarter to five?.
Back in to the starting eleven came Stuart Brown and Ben Osborne, also in on the bench was the huge experience of 'Taffy' Richardson.
Out,due to last weeks 'battle of Bemerton',with sustained injuries were the Skillful Trefor Smith and Luke Whitley.
How they lined up
Subs; Taffy,Reeves,Wilson,Ayres,Tonge
Straight from the kick off Lymington came off the blocks and in the first five minute Harvell was the main stay of the Dolphins side with two clearances and two very good saves, demonstrating his agility by tipping one shot over and one full stretch dive to push the ball around his left hand post.
It took a good verbal shake up by the Captain,Rico to stir the side who responded with a goal on five minutes when Steve Smith, with a second attempt converted in amongst a melee of players GOAL!! 1-0
We were now also seeing what we missed last weekend at Bemerton with the experience and 'holding up' skills of Ben Osborne, who in the 20th minute got himself in a good position to receive a long ball from Yelland before crossing to Stevo, who tried an overhead kick that sent the ball wide.
Browner also had a good dipping shot from 30 yards, that looked to be heading for the left top corner before the keeper got across to save.
In the 34th minute the man of all positions,Dan Cann received a RED for a second bookable offence when a Lymington player racing clear with the ball went to ground after Dan won the ball, the ball blocking the attackers stride, and as he tumbled over the ref made the quick decision to send Dan on his way.
Queue all change which saw the dependable young Sturgess put in some solid defending and also Funnell getting into his stride with some good intelligent runs.
Before the half was to reach a conclusion we saw some lovely play from Osborne to pass to Stevo and then to Funnell before the ball was cleared and Osborne again using his strength and experience to hold the ball up lured the oppositions number 6 into a second bookable tackle that also led to his dismissal to make it 10 all.
H/T 0-1
With the Poole Hordes encircling the perimeter and hearing the news that Totton were leading Wimborne 1-0 it was important Poole kept their shape, and desire to win maintained at the highest level, but in the first minutes of the half this was in question as Rico made a solid defensive save followed by Harvell again showing how good a signing he is with first, one instinctive stretch at an attempted lob, then a good low down body behind the ball save from a strong free kick.
Tk not liking what he was witnessing rallied his men with a verbal stirring to remind them of their job in hand, this lifted the team and Osborne again started to play some intelligent balls into space to start a move between Smith and Culliford who shot just wide
The energetic Funnell was also again going on some decent runs and linking up well with Culli and on one such move in the 60th minute Funnell broke through the middle and crossed for Culliford to power a strong header past the keeper for Poole's second GOAL!! 2-0
Again,Funnell repeated the move and this time Cullifords shot was pushed away for a corner.TK's rousing call to the players seemed to have had a positive effect and from the corner taken by Funnell,Rico planted a firm header goal wards that took a deflection from the hard working Osborne for Poole's Third GOAL!! 3-0
Lymington tried to rally and with around 15 minutes left were awarded a penalty which they duly converted to make the score 3-1 but from then on Poole took the sting out of the game, which again saw Funnell and Culli combining well.
With around 8 minutes left TK took off Stevo and Ben Osborne and replaced them up front with Taffy and the youngster,Shane Ayres.
Straight from the off Taffy got in a long goal bound shot that was touched over, good to see him back amongst it.
While young Shane had time to be put through, only for his shot to bend away from the target, and also in another move hold the ball up, as well as start a move with a clever chest down.
F/T 1-3
Well Done Lads!!
