Both teams ate top of their respective league with both teams only losing one game each so far . Taken from Consett FC website:
Consett's home FA Vase game with Trafford has been called OFF for the third time. With unfortunate timing, a heavy overnight frost hit last night and while the forecast had been for the weather to get warmer today, there was no improvement in the pitch by 11.00 and the decision was taken at that point to call the game off to prevent our friends from Trafford, who must be as heartily of all this as we are, making the long journey up from Manchester. We will now try again next week, which means our home game against Dunston is the latest fixture to be added to our ever-increasing backlog.

Interesting to note all 3 top sides scored 4 goals in the second half yesterday, looks like fitness could be the key to winning this league. BTW thanks for the Vase opposition websites dave2,will they ever get that game played

Hayling Utd 2 v Wimborne 7. So they are still chasing hard. Yeah and not only did Wimborne win but so did AFC Totton who are well placed to knock off either Poole or Wimborne from one of the top 2 spots should either side lose a game and Totton win.

The following was taken from the Consett FC website posted 29 December:
Consett finally played their FA Vase game with Trafford at the fourth time of asking and progressed to the 4th Round with a hard-fought but deserved 2-1 win. Mattie Moffat opened the scoring with a far post header from John Ewart's cross in the 31st minute. Consett then doubled their lead on the stroke of half time through Mark Patterson, whose shot found the net despite the best efforts of Southwood to clear. The Steelmen dominated the second half and wasted good chances to increase their lead, but ended up hanging on for the win when Barlow netted nine minutes from time to ensure a nerous finale. The win sees The Steelmen through to the last 32 for only the third time ever, equalling the achievement of 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons. However their task in the next round, away to Wessex League leaders Poole Town on Saturday 19 January, is about the toughest they'll have ever faced in this competition.

The match report from the Trafford Fc website:
Trafford's 17 game unbeaten run stretching back to September 8th came to an end on Saturday when they were defeated 2-1 by Northern League leaders Consett in their FA Vase Third Round Tie. After a defence dominated opening in which neither keeper was tested, the North Easterners had a goal disallowed in the 17th minute when Trafford custodian Tom Read was impeded as Steven Brown forced the ball home. Visiting right back Sam Halligan was forced to leave the field in the 26th minute following a reckless challenge and Trafford reshaped their back four by bringing veteran substitute defender Lee Southwood into the centre. Disaster struck five minutes later when Consett took the lead, John Ewart floating a cross to the back post where Matthew Moffatt headed in unchallenged. Trafford's teenage midfield dynamo Harry Winter then struck a drive from 20 yards just wide before, in the 41st minute, Will Aherne fed Scott Barlow who shot agonisingly wide from 12 yards. Just seconds before half time the visitors were struck a hammer blow when more slack marking allowed Mark Patterson to shoot inside the far post from the edge of the penalty area to double his side's advantage. Trafford came out for the second period determined to make a game of it but Consett created the better chances with Moffatt twice firing wide and Steven Johnson blasting in a shot that was held by Read. Manager Ged Kielty introduced substitute Dion Depeiaza in place of Wez Wilkinson and he immediately saw an effort saved by James Platten. Simon Woodford struck a speculative shot just over from 30 yards before, in the 81st minute, Trafford's effervescent striker Scott Barlow skipped past two defenders, rounded keeper Platten, and rolled the ball home to make it 2-1. Despite pushing forward relentlessly in the closing minutes, the nearest Trafford came to an equaliser was a looping header by Woodford that was comfortably held by Platten and so they were left with a long journey home in the knowledge that they could now concentrate their efforts on their push for promotion to the Unibond League.
This gives a insite to the Consett team players
