Poole ground out a hard earned win at Alrseford thanks to a superbly taken long range free kick by Funnell in the final few minutes of the game ,he struck it sweet and low and although the keeper got a touch to it the ball flew in to the bottom right hand corner.
The game saw the debut of recent signing Ben Osbourne wearing the number 9 shirt, with Trefor Smith on the bench alledgedly carrying an injury.
One thing about being top of the pile is it seems to raise the oppositions game and Judging by the majority of Alresford results finishing by the odd goal this away fixture was never going to be easy, indeed in the first half Alresford played some nice passing football at times.
The first half looked to start one sided as Poole took the game to the opposition, all be it nervously, with Taff doing well in the middle,Yelland in for Skelton was also beavering away, but as Alresford started to keep possession they came more into the game and started to even things up,Cann was replaced by the eager and impressive Shaun Bowden on 30 minutes after Cann was injured.
The Poole goal came in the 44th minute from a Yelland corner and culliford was on hand to head the ball into the net from close range amongst a bunch of players. GOAL!!
The second half started with a Culliford lob that just came back of the post that could have doubled the lead and instead Alresford went up the other end minutes later to level the scores and bring it back to 1-1,Max was also on hand to make a low save at the feet of the oppos number 9.
Skelton replaced Yelland on 70 mins and the Alresford number 7 fired just over from a corner.....up the other end Steve Smith turned and fired over and shortly after Ian Richardson went on a run that took him past two players and into the Alresford box, taffy was calling as Rico tried that one tackle too many and the ball was cleared.
Poole got the winner with minutes spare when Rico again on a run won a free kick some 30-35 yards out from the Alresford Goal,up stepped Funnell and to the delight of the Poole traveling support hit the back of the net GOAL!! to make it 2-1.
There was still time for Alresford to hit the bar before the ref called the game to an end..OK it wasn't the prettiest football but with the exception of the home tie in the Dorset cup in midweek this was Pooles fourth league away matche on the spin, and two wins and two draws are a fair shout.
Next week its back to Home territory at Tatnam Farm and Top Versus bottom against Downon, and chance to get behind your local team.
