Poole's hatrick of away fixtures came to an end today with a hard earned 0-0 draw away at Bournemouth,to be fair it wasn't Poole's best performance and they struggled to get into top gear but the team in front of them gave them a good game.
The first half saw limited action at both ends and the main battle was in midfield which saw both sides struggle to string passes together mainly IMO to the very bumpy surface.Poole had a header just over the bar from a free kick, taken by Cann after he was upended out on the right half way inside the poppies half.
Up the other end the poppies had a couple of chances, including a header over the bar and a shot that their big number 9 curled just around the far post.
The game was held up for around 8 minutes when the ref pulled up with what looked like a calf strain, wonder if that was the bumpy surface, and was replaced by the lino, where upon a sub lino then took up the line.
H/T 0-0
The second half started better for Poole with some good exchanges of passes, finishing with Trefor Smith cutting into the right side of the box and passing to Steve Smith, but the ball was cleared before the young striker could connect.
The poppies had a run down the left and a cross that went across the goal face, but came to nothing ..up the other end Taffy was nearly played through by Steve S but again the effort was cleared.
Yet again A decent following of dolphins fans gathered behind the goal and down both sides of the poppies half hoping for a break through, this nearly came when from a corner young Taffy was again in on the action with a goal bound header that the keeper gathered...Funnel also put a well struck free kick just wide.
Late in the second half it was the poppies turn to apply the pressure, from one such move the ball was deflected just wide for a corner, the resulting corner was flashed across the face of the Poole goal...Frampton also was on hand to save from a free kick.
The half finished with Poole's front man Steve Smith going on a run with the ball and then striking a hard shot just over the bar...on balance this was a fair result and the team left the park with 1 win and 2 draws, and unbeaten from 3 very tricky away games, next up on Tuesday in the Dorset Senior Cup second round is Hamworthy Utd at Tatnam Farm...followed by a Trip up the M27 & M3 next Saturday to Alresford Town for another league away fixture.
