In fact it turned out to be a very wet night in Hamble,...after watching Saturday i decided to make the trip to Hamble to check out Poole again,as well as adding another non league ground to my list.
For those that have never been,Hamble has a great little chippy just over the road from the ground, the ground itself fits snuggly just inside the main gate of the Aerostructures establishment.
The crowd looked to be made up of around 50/50 away and home fans ,a fantastic following by the Poole faithfull..Poole started well but unfortunately so did the rain which made the surface very greasy....in the first half Poole edged it and had the majority of chances, although Poole were caught on a couple of occasions and had a let off when Frampton did enough to put the striker off when on a 'one on one',..the striker firing over.
As Poole pushed yet again they were caught a second time but this time the ball got under the Hamble strikers feet and the weak shot was saved by Frampton
Because of the slippery surface, and at times torrential conditions the quality of passing wasn't at its best and push as Poole did the final touch eluded them,Steve Smith was showing some good control and speed, with Trefor doing his best to run and try to create an opening...Poole had plenty of Chances either cleared or put wide but the Hamble keeper,O'Donnell also has to take some credit for a couple of good saves, one such save, tipping a long shot over from Brown.
Just before half time Whitley had to get a saving foot in to clear for a corner,a corner that came to nothing for Hamble.
H?T 0-0
The rain eased for the start of the second half and on the first attack Poole took the lead when a header from Steve Smith crept in between the keepers outstretched hand and bar GOAL!! 1-0
Poole enjoyed some pressure with Steve Smith and Culli putting a few chances just wide of the mark ,but as one of the Poole attacks broke down, the ball was cleared up field on the left by the Hamble number 4,Stock,which was touched on to Gregory who had made the run into the right side of the Poole penalty area,as Frampton tried to shut down the angle Gregory fired into the far Corner to bring the scores level.Goal!! 1-1
Hamble had a spell of pressure having built on the confidence from their counter attacks, and with around 20 minutes left TK made two changes to try to bolster Poole ,with Cannie on for Taffy and Funnel on for Sturgess.
Poole got back into the game and thought they had found the winner but the effort was judged offside...it was more or less one way pressure as Poole pushed for a winner and instrumental to the cause was Skelton who from the back position was dropping some lovely long teasing balls in behind the Hamble defence for the attackers to run on too.
During this time Pooles dominance around the Hamble box saw a pin ball effect of shots but with too many bodies in front of goal the winner just wouldn't come,on reflection Poole IMO didn't look like losing but it wasn't hard to see why Hamble had only conceded 8 goals so far this season....unfortunately there was only going to be one winner tonight...the weather.
F/T 1-1
