A short message to offer our sincere and deepest sympathy to the family of Eric. Just before kick off of the DSC Semi Final last night, we learnt of the sad passing of Eric whilst in Poole hospital. Geraldine and I have been following PTFC for 2 seasons now, and Eric was one of many people who made us as newcomers feel most welcome. Always ready to shake you by the hand and have a chat, Eric went on to sponsor Luke. This was something which I know for a fact Luke appreciated a great deal, and was accepted with much gratitude and pride. A true gent of the game who was a hands on bloke, donning the yellow stewards’ bib for each home game and helping where he could. Asking how he was each week Eric would mention the odd “ache & pain” here and there but always make light his ailments waiting for the “horse tablets” the GP was feeding him to kick in ! We have all met many characters along the way in the football world, Eric was a true gentlemen and one we will always remember with great affection. My biggest regret, is that we were due to go and visit Eric in hospital on Friday – we will never get that chance. Never leave until tomorrow what you can do today I guess. God bless Eric, may you rest in peace. Tony, Geraldine & Luke Whitley.

Agree with everything you said Tony. I would like ti some up Eric with this. just over a month ago i lost my mother after a long illness, the night before the funeral Eric phoned me up to apologise that he wouldn't be able to make because ,in his words," i am a little short of breath"! At this stage none of realised how ill he was,but Eric's onl;y thought was to let me know that he couldn't come & to apologise to my father. Wot a gent in the real meaning of the word ! R.I.P. "DRAKEY" WE'LL MISS YA MATE.

Great turnout for Eric at his funeral today.Huge number of supporters and good number of players including many who had been at Cowes the night before. A fitting tribute to a real Poole Town stalwart
