A little surprised regarding the coverage of Saturdays match.
I speak only of Poole, not the refereeing, not the opposition.
I’m sure we’ve all seen a lot worse behaviour on a football pitch than that – I certainly have. In fact the way our lads conducted themselves never entered my head. We were competitive in a very, very tight game. Show me a manager who doesn’t want that, show me a player who doesn’t give that and he’s not a player. Yes there’s a line – did the Poole Town players cross it on Saturday…of course not. In fact for me, we played quite well for large parts and very well in some parts.
Lets look at the last 3 points from 12 available.
Fareham – Tight game , late on they put away one of their few chances.
We had no cushion to work with, and lost the game.
Hamworthy – Total domination, particularly first half (went in nil-nil). They took the only two chances they had, we scored a “consolation” late on.
Moneyfields – Superb, not only the very impressive score line but in this particular game when chances came along we took them – plus a twenty yarder thrown in for good measure.
Gosport - Looked the world set for 0–0, and a fairly decent point. For me Poole the better side for long periods, playing quite well I thought. Scrawny free kick 0-1 , then having to push for the equaliser…bang 0-2. Again, in the period of the game we needed to score we couldn’t manage much in the last third.
Unfortunately, there is a common theme here. If you think back over the games above, we have actually played quite well in all – very well for large periods.
We just seem to live on the edge of being well in games but finding it difficult to convert chances and get in the box seat, gaining that much needed leeway in the event of conceding. That said, PTFC are seen as a strong side this year playing some of the better stuff around with a lot more to come. A little more productive, sharper and clinical in the last third, would achieve so much.
