Never mind re-opening expat, I can still remember the excitement when it opened! I don't recall the "Vanguard" though. It gives me another target in life - to ride again on the Poole Park miniature railway! When did it originally open?

Yes indeed PPR is 're-opening' - Work starts 6th December 2021.. After much consultation from myself and a few others from the Volunteers that ran the railway before it 'closed' the railway will 're-open' to the same gauge (10 1/4 Inches) albeit with brand new track, Stock and completely new shed/facilities.... The railway originally opened on the 9th April 1949... 'Vanguard' the original Locomotive along with 'Valiant' which was also built by Southern Miniature Railways are still running at the Kirby Green Railway..... Plans were in place when we as volunteers were running the railway to try to bring 'Vanguard' to run on the railway for the 70th Anniversary - but of course that was not to be. All I can stress to anyone is do not believe everything you read in the press with regards the 'temporary' closure of the railway..... I am one of a few who will be aiming to volunteer my services to run the railway once again.....

Thanks very much Steve. That's fascinating stuff and now I know how old I was when it opened. And thank goodness for volunteers like you.

I was in the park this Sunday and the Railway was running with (what looked like) paying passengers.
I have seen elsewhere that they may still be test runs, and it was running at about walking pace.

I was in Poole Park last Friday morning (28th October 2022) and I am delighted to say that the miniature railway was open with a train chugging around its course. There were only two carriages attached at the time I witnessed it but they were full of happy passengers all smiling and waving, especially the children! I didn't recognise the train driver but he looked cheerful too. Long may it last!
