Sorry to divert from this post. (lack of skill!)

Pete was a very sound right back--I do remember him being pushed up front for the reserves at the Stadium one Easter bank holiday game and getting a hat-trick--only goals I can remember him scoring. He we=as a great Poole sportsman excelling at both football and cricket.

I fished out an old penny sheet programme from the Western League Feb 13th 1965, Poole v Torquay. The Poole side was : Bennett, Starks,Dooker, Beasley, Ward, Gray,Kerr, Swallow, Saker, Hunt, Bodger. The Torquay side contained Ernie Pym, John Brewster and Ben Murphy who all went on to play for us. In the Torquay goal was Turner(Mike?) whom I believed went on to play for Swindon, and I seemed to remember talking to at Tatnam, as he had moved to the area and turned out to watch the Dolphins.

Thx Scorpio I remember John Saker who was a goal scoring machine for one of the Boscombe Jnr Teams, then joined us when we had Poole A playing in the Dorset league.I am not sure if he had a few games in the First Team. When I lived in the UK Dave Bodger lived directly across the road. If Gray is Eddie Gray that man was a playmaker grade one. His legs were going but still a very skillful player

Expat, I never watched the reserves, but I can remember seeing John Saker back then, and he looked about six foot six. With one game left in that season the reserves were bottom of the league having won only five games and conceding 145 goals. Saker had scored 16 of our 49 goals. I assume that the Western League back then consisted of the first teams of Welton Rovers, Bideford, Minehead, Dorchester, WSM, Frome, Chippenham, Andover and Taunton, plus the reserve sides of Torquay, Bristol City and Exeter, so it was a tall order.
