Weymouth went five points clear of Taunton last night and despite the local rivalry those that attended the game at Taunton will probably be cheering on the Terras. In reality it is more likely to be hoping Taunton are not Champions. For all the local rivalry, Weymouth play the game the right way in my opinion.
So many teams in this league and the NLS play a physical game, with little finesse. Against those teams it is up to the skilful teams to outwit the physical with their football. Of course it is goals and clean sheets that win games and this year we have been too inconsistent both ends of the pitch so far.
There is an amount of luck in football and against last Saturday's opponents, Hendon we had little luck in either game. Surely Griffin was fouled in the area and was that really a free kick that led to their second goal? The one thing you can say is that the free kick deserved to win any match and really we did not do enough ourselves to say "we wuz robbed".
While it is easy to say that refereeing decision change games (and I have not been backwards in saying this in the past) you cannot hide behind them. We lost against a very ordinary hard working team.
The same was true at Taunton. I said after that match that I would not pay money to watch that type of football every week. In fact, as a supporter I probably would, but I would moan like hell about it. It was a million miles away from the beautiful game.
On occasion this season we have seen the beautiful game both at home and away but it has been too infrequent to make a real challenge. We have shown that we can be as good as the top teams but fail against the plodders too often. This was always going to be a difficult season after last year. We cab take some comfort from that fact that we have stabilised at this level but we are all used to winning, more often than not.
Mistakes have been made over the past three seasons and at the end of this season, whether we make the play-offs or not, lessons must be learnt.
We need a minimum of 13 points from the last 5 games and probably 15 to make the play-offs so we do need to get behind the team for these 5 games.
However from my point of view, I would rather Weymouth went up than any of the hoof it and hope merchants we have played this year. From the comments of supporters that travelled to Taunton, I am not alone.

The Echo suggests that defeat tomorrow would put a huge dent in our play-off hopes. Defeat would end them.

I agree scorpio. We may be Poole fans but we're not fantasists. Even if, by some near miracle, we did get in the pplay offs, our chances against Salisbury, Met Police and Taunton would be fairly slim. expat, and others, are right, it's time to look ahead and build for next season.

Manager and Team Captain both suspended. Says it all! Lets hope that the "Winds of Change" blow around Tatnam Farm in the close season. Doesn't it break the true PTFC fans heart when we get a larger crowd than usual and stink the joint out? Thank you JohnA for your very sporting words about the Terras' They bit the bullet and put in new faces and it has paid off for them. Would that we would emulate them. Hopefully we will again play at a higher level and against our old rivals.
UP THE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN!!!

To be fair, Weymouth appointed someone whose full time job is with the AFCB youth setup and that has given the access to a number of current and past AFCB youth players.
Add the extra funds that their crowds and club house give them and it is hard to compete. No jealousy there (well maybe a bit).
However if we did make the play-offs then all bets are off. There is no outstanding team in this division and we have proven that we can match anyone on our day. That those days have been too few against the lower teams. We may not seem ready for play-offs, promotion and NLS but if it came we would take it with open arms.
As for the suspensions, Jamie was yellow carded the second time for “foot up” even though the opposing player put his head down to try to win the ball. An almost identicalsituationV Hendon led to just a free kick, no caution for the Hendon player.
The Hendon manager was harassing the officials all game and at one point used the C. bomb to the Lino. Something heard by many people including children. No punishment. What would have happened if Tommy had even questioned a decision?
If you don’t think Tommy’s treatment has been unfair, his ban is effectively 8 games as although Dorset Senior Cup matches are include in the punishment, only FA Competions and League games count.
OK realistically we have little chance of promotion even if we make the play-offs and I expect planning is underway for the new season already. Realistically we need 15 points from the last 5 games and that is a big ask whe. We play Met Police and Weymouth but have not lost to either this season. Fifth place is Kings Langley’s to lose but until it is impossible to catch them we keep going.

After today's results. Farnborough 1 Poole Town 2 King's Langley 1 Swindon Supermarine 2 We have narrowed the gap to 3 points. Next Saturday while we are at home to Basingstoke Town, the Hertfordshire side are away at Taunton. So still all to play for. COYD 🐬

Great win today and it is very much all to play for. I said after the Hendon game that Kings Langley's run in has plenty of banana skins and that they would drop points - didn't necessarily think it would start today. I can see us back in the top 5 after our next match. I think we should beat Basingstoke, and Kings Langley will get beaten by Taunton. I also think Weymouth getting a huge lead in the automatic promotion race is helping us - Salisbury, Met Police and Taunton all are relaxing knowing they are in the play offs but won't win the league, and Weymouth will probably win their next 2 games against Beaconsfield and Chesham to secure the automatic promotion.
If I'm right then we would be level on points with Kings Langley with three games to go and promotion will be back in our own hands.
Everyone is looking at the fixture list, thinking about the fact we have to play Weymouth and Met Police, and that we are sure to drop points, but by the time we play Weymouth, I fully expect them to be champions, and so we will have the advantage of more to play for, and Met Police are safely in the play offs but out of contention for the automatic, which hopefully will mean they ease up a bit. As for the last match, well if it is in our own hands, I can't see us messing it up.
So I reckon we are going to do it, and if we do go on a run and make the Play Offs, don't rule out the significance of us being on a roll.
Don't anyone give up yet - I said after the Hendon game that all is not lost, and it clearly isn't.

Choirboy Dave and anyparker1, you must be two of the greatest optimists in the game! You put all us pessimists to shame because you’re right to look on the bright side and you’re right to say, “all is not lost”. Thanks you two and COME ON YOU DOLPHINS!

Thanks for the kind words Heyshamdolphin - I think it is an exciting stage of the season with all to play for and lots to look forward to. If we do make the play offs, we will make it on good form, whereas some of the others (like Salisbury for instance) look to be tailing off a bit, so let's see if we can get five wins on the spin and frighten teams that others fear are better than us. COME ON YOU DOLPHINS!

well john you dont want taunton to go up but i am sure you want them to beat kings langley this Saturday? and if weymouth need to beat us for promotion and we need win for p/offs you still want weymouth to go up? lol.
well i agree weymouth play good football except against us in the 2-2 at their place.i wont be on my own to say the club are not very welcoming and the facilities and food for away is sub standard.I prefer taunton to beat kings langley this saturday and we beat weymouth so if that means they dont go straight up so be it.And if all my wishes come true we would meet weymouth in the sudden death p/off match and that be more revenue for us in front of a suggested 1500 fans.and then a move nearer promotion for us !! then better standard teams and bigger crowds and revenue bring it on coyds
Well said andy parker the only thing is even if Weymouth are champions when they play us im sure the fans will travel in numbers at least 500 and demand a win to rub our noses in it (no love lost there lol) especially if we need a win for playoffs.they will be singing champions all game and trying to grind it in to us !! coyds

I just want Poole Town back in NLS ASAP. Said at the start of this season, with the need to rebuild the team, it would probably take three seasons. But if we can do it in 1 fine by me! Also which other team get promoted with us, don't care one jot, just so long as the Dolphins join them. COYD 🐬

Have you been recently Stroller? Decent terracing ... tick. No crumbling concrete...tick. Decent sized playing surface.,.tick Good drainage...... work in progress. Yes we would love something like the BL but you have to agree it needs an awful lot of work. Anyway it looks like Wimborne will have a nice new stadium before either the Terras or the Dolphins,

I see that AFC Bournemouth are forging ahead with their development at Canford, many football pitches, training, indoor pitches etc etc . Now we are all under the new Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council, surely this is the time for discussions to be able to join in with this development (supported by the BCP Council) for part of the development for a stadium for Poole Town FC before its too late.
