Afc Bournemouth U18’s captain Brennan Camp has joined the Dolphins on loan, following on from the recent arrival of Jake Scrimshaw. Camp, a Portland local, is a highly rated centre back and the grandson of former Manchester City and Bristol City legend Gerry Gow. He joined Bournemouth as a 7 year old and is currently their longest serving youth player. He has recently attracted the attention of the Scottish FA who are interested in him representing them at youth level and was named by talkSPORT and the Guardian as a ‘Star of the Future’ along with the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ryan Sessegnon and Phil Foden. He is expected to be in the squad for Tuesdays League Challenge Cup fixture versus Wimborne Town. Good luck and welcome aboard Brennan. www.afcb.co.uk/matches/under-18s/2018-19/afc-bournemouth-v-swindon-town

Brennan "joined Bournemouth as a 7 year old"!!?? Is that common these days? Vicars'll be getting issued with signing-on forms for baptisms next. Then what "league of greed" club you want your children to join'll be in the wedding ceremony. As my Uncle Frank used to say - often - "damn silly nonsense"!

Apologies Heyshamdolphin but all I am trying to put across is a little background info on him. And yes it is quite normal for youngsters to be signed at an early age if they show a natural ability and talent. It then offers them the opportunity to be coached and develop in a professional environment to hopefully enable that talent to be fulfilled. It happens in many sports and certainly not unique to football. The point I was trying to make is that even though he joined at an early age, the fact that he is still there as an 18 year old speaks volumes for his talent and potential. Trust me, remaining in any Academy for that length of time takes some doing! Hopefully Brennan can do a good job for the Dolphins and relish the opportunity to work with and learn off of Spetch and Whisken; it should be a great experience for him. Regards 👍

I wasn't in the least offended by your post stato. I'm grateful for the information you've provided. Thank you. I share your hopes and good wishes for Brennan. Good luck to him.
What does offend me is wondering how many youngsters like Brennan, but less talented perhaps, are enlisted by professional football clubs at - in my opinion - much too young ages - and then cast aside, disappointed and often without another career option. I'm surprised that professional football clubs are allowed to sign seven-year-olds!

I totally agree with your sentiments Brian. The way that these clubs mop up all the youngsters with any small amount of talent is iniquitous. All they need is one who makes it and they can recoup their outlay many times over. It's akin to intensive puppy farming in some ways. Drains the pool for non league clubs and gives so many of the less talented kids, hopes far beyond their abilities. Once they've realised that they aren't going to make it, they just cast 'em aside and leave it to others to pick up the pieces of destroyed dreams.
