How do people think Carl Woodward is shaping up this season? After a good showing last year I can't make my mind up at this early stage.

No question to answer in my opinion!
We are only talking about a couple of friendlies at this stage and Carl has been as solid at the back as always. Perhaps now we just have some better defenders to go alongside him (Cherrett, Spalding for sure) so Carl doesn't 'stand out' as much as he used to??
Super player and no doubt he will put in the usual top performances this coming season........

I've only seen a couple of games, but the impression I had was of a very solid defense. One soft penalty against Holt (after Carl left the field), clean sheets against decent Salisbury and Dorchester teams. Seems good enough to me.
Perhaps the formation and strength of the midfield means Carl's getting forward a bit less, so fewer eye-catching crosses to notice perhaps?
Anyway, three halves of football seems way too early for me to draw any conclusions, particularly about a player who's performed so consistently well for two seasons.

I have to agree with Steve and that Doug that we have a very solid looking defense this season and I believe that teams will find us difficult score against.
As for the form of Carl we all know that he has been the "Denis Irwin" of Poole Town since he has been with us and I think he is a very important member of our defense. Lets also not forget that Carl was offered the chance to play at a higher level this seasons but decided to stay with us.I'm sure it won't be long before those trademark crosses are flying in again much to the delight of our forwards and supporters.

In my book Carl has been Pooles most consistent player over the past couple of seasons, his fitness level is outstanding, his left peg delivery is a valuable weapon in set peices and his reading of the game is exceptional. Form is temporary Class is permanent

i beleive carl now has better players around him...so maybe he looks ordinary...yes he is a good player....but we also have young Marc Jackson who i beleive will be a better prospect in time....but do not right off carl...he can play a good sweeping role with his pace.
my back line would be....Gary Bartlett, Ollie Cherrat. Spalding, Marc Jackson
