Yesterday we lost one of the last honest principled politicians. I had the privilige of meeting him on a few occasions, as we were both fans of Plymouth Argyle. Until a few years ago, when his health really started to fail, he preferred to mingle with the Janners in the pub pre match then pay for his own seat, as due to an accident, standing for long periods was very painful for him. Whether you agreed with his politics or not, at least he stood up for his beliefs and was a patriot.

I knew his nephew (Paul Foot) very well and he was just like his uncle. He happened to be a priest in my grandmothers village in dear 'ole' Kernow called 'St Day' Incidently that is where I spent a lot of my childhood...

I agree. Michael Foot was a real rarity in these days when honest politician is an oxymoron!. And Paul was a sincere and concinced politician too. I've met him and read a some of his books but I had no idea he was ever a priest. That does surprise me!!! In my view both have been a great loss.

Ah Brian, the Paul Foot you are referring to was indeed a journalist/politician and whose father was Hugh Foot (Michael's Brother) but I am talking about Michael's other Nephew who incidently was called Paul. I will post more when I find it... Paul Foot (nephew -Journalist) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Foot

Thanks Steve, the link explains my confusion. That was, indeed, the Paul Foot I was thinking of. A great campaigner and author of some excellent books and articles. A multi-talented family with two Pauls!!
