Not only a good old actor with his best role as Guy Gibson in the Dambusters for 617 SQdrn, but a true hero in real life too. Sad to see he passed away on Thursday. Well played sir Obituary: Richard Todd news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8394977.stm

The nation loses a true hero. I had the pleasure of listening to him being interviewed once, what a man, he risked his life for arguably the future of the Western world and just thought he was doing what anybody would do, not expecting anything in return. Also, DA DA DA, DA DA DA DA etc.

I saw "The Hasty Heart" when I was a kid! Great stuff.

My father is ex RAF, left PGS and joined up in 1940, so I was brought up on a diet of war films. One of the best being "The Dambusters".
In real life Todd was parachuted in behind enemy lines on D-Day and helped hold Pegasus bridge until the invasion force could reinforce them. A real hero.
