On a cold afternoon in Salisbury, Poole recorded another win, this time at the physical Bemerton. While not as 'Hearty' as last seasons encounter there were still some sturdy challenges going in, especially the first half which saw a Bemerton player sent off for two yellow cards following a couple of reckless tackles.
Poole had a few chances before the eventual Penalty around the half hour mark, allegedly for a tug on one of our players - cue protests from the opposition, which Charlie tucked away for 1-0. With the stern battle in Midfield under the leadership of Taffy this was more about our defence and it's no coincidence to see how we have kept 5 clean sheets in 6 games leading up to this match, only conceding once in that odd game.
In the second half Poole went at them again with Carl Preston working the left wing well in the absence of Billy, Skelts was also missing from the squad. In the 65th minute a corner was met just inside the box by Luke on the right side of goal and as he smashed the ball goal wards it flew in to the net through a crowd of players for 2-0. We also saw one of the Bemerton bench sent to the stands courtesy of the man in black. Sturgess, Smith and Hubbard replaced Taff, Brown and Culli late in the half and the Poole defence carried on mopping up anything BHH could throw at them by calmly passing the ball around.
My MOM for today was Luke, for working hard in defence as well as hunting for the odd goal chance which he gratefully took to kill off the game.
Well Done lads.
Yet again there was good travelling support.
