Good first half from Poole - got lead on 20 mins with brilliant header from Charlie Austin. Sales hit post with superb effort for VT and ball rebounded back into keeper's (Porter's) arms. Half time 0-1 to Poole. Rain incessant and by start of second half many puddles especially in centre of pitch. It was all VT in second half - Poole couldn't get out of own half. On 64 minutes VT got penalty to level the match and 3 mins later the ref called a halt. Right decision in my opinion - nobody could play in that and it was only getting worse. I'm guessing result will stand as 75% match completed? Almost seemed as though ref was trying to get to that point?? Maybe someone can clarify................

Not sure if the result will stand. Would take a draw though
The ref had to abandon the game in the end and the weather just got worse and worse.
Not a very nice drive home either

Thanks for the quick report Steve. Looking at the Wessex site they have not included the result so I can only assume that the abandoned result does not count. Brock are now top, having played 3 games more than us. We will have to put that right next week ;D

I don't think the result will stand - I'm pretty sure that the whole game will be replayed and that the Amesbury result standing was an exception given how far we were ahead. Bill Reid said it would be "no result" and a replay as we walked off.
I thought the ref was just waiting a decent interval after the equaliser as abandoning it while we were ahead might have upset the majority of people in the ground!
Of course, some VT people then thought the abandonment favoured Poole as VT were "battering" us, to quote one. I might argue that the penalty was a result of the difficulty of making a clean challenge in those conditions. A good example of how refs can't win sometimes, but I agree that he did the right thing. The two teams couldn't possibly stop trying to tackle given the importance of the game - the inevitable mistimings (of which we'd already seen a few) would either have lead to a spate of bookings, a farce of a game without any tackling, or, worse, someone getting badly hurt.

No the result won't stand we will need to replay it later on.
This result means we are off the top of the league!! Bummer, but we do have 3 games in hand.

Don't think they would've had that penalty in dry conditions. That was some of the worst weather i've ever watched football in. As for VT battering us, we would've been able to attack more if the pitch had drained even a little. Hope you got home alright m3. Think the flag will be dry for the next game? Was it me or were all the prats in the 4by4s still driving like clowns on the A31. Slepe got you a programme, it's a bit wet though!!!!

I think the winner today was the weather. Credit to both teams for trying to make a game of it. It clearly was the right decision to abandon - almost inevitable after a VT player's sliding tackle made him look like he was at Splashdown.
Good first half from Poole. Charlie had a great effort really well saved before scoring a fantastic header. Paul Sales turn and shot was fantastic - very unlucky for him to hit the post.
To be fair VT did deserve the equaliser - they had been threatening for long enough. However, trying to play any sort of passing football had become impossible. The game was becoming a complete lottery.
Great support from Poole again.
As an aside - I would like to thank the staff at the Honda garage near West Quays. Having dropped the wife & 2 younger kids off in Sothampton and arranged a meet after the match I was much too early backl due to the game being abandoned (and wife's mobile knackered so could not contact her). So I pulled up on a side road nearby & listened to the football results coming in. As I decided to leave to pick up the family - battery dead (what a plonker - left my lights on). As Honda were packing up I manged to get them to jump start me - saving an irate wife from waiting in the torrential rain! So many thanks to Honda!

Well I had a slight cold before hand, now have a horrible fake sounding cough and really bad sniffles, next time I am taking a spare set of clothes to change into . I felt sorry for the lads as one of them mentioned a problem with the showers . Oh well here's to the replay
