Anybody got a recipe for green tomato chutney? My tomatoes won't go red They are outside of course. I think I'll paint them ;D

I have have exactly same problem slepe. I can't be bothered to go downstairs tonight but I'll post an excellent recipe tomorrow - promise!

Here you are slepe... Green Tomato Chutney: 3lbs green toms; 1 lb apples; 1 1/4 lbs demerara sugar; 3/4 tsp white pepper; 1-2 ozs salt; 1 1/2 lbs onions; 1 1/2 pints vinegar; 3/4 tsp mace; 2-3 ozs white mustard seed; 3/4 tsp cayenne pepper; 1 bay leaf Method: Peel & slice fruit & onions and put into vinegar. Bring slowly to boil and simmer for one hour. Mix the rest of the ingredients in a bowl, add to the pan and continue cooking for 1 and a half hours when most of the vinegar should have evaporated off and chutney become thick. Check and stir regularly to prevent sticking. Seal in jars and store. Delicious!!!

Thanks for that Brian....................I will give them a little longer and if theres no "red" action I'll bung em' in the chutney. Has it got a name??
