I was at Tiverton last Saturday. It was encouraging to be, for once, at a ground that isn't much better than Tatnam and, in some respects, worse. The playing surface was rather poor and the grass in need of cutting. One of the locals told me they'd had drainage problems! It certainly didn't help the quality of the football and probably accounts for Tivvy's rather 'industrial' defence.
The Dolphins conceded two somewhat 'soft' goals from an uncontested cross and a quick breakaway - we seem to still be vulnerable in both these situations. On the plus side our boys were very hardworking and never gave up. They deserved at least a draw and how the home goal survived the last ten minutes remains a minor miracle!
It was nice to meet some old friends to share the game with. I had to ask the names of the Poole players from time to time which must be a bit irritating but comes from being an 'exile'. Poole had a good bunch behind the home goal with several excellent banners and as much - or more - noise than the home fans!
Also on the plus side, I was able to inform a Poole fan in the pub the night before that Poole were not at home to Swindon Supermarine but away at Tiverton in a rearranged fixture. Saved him a journey to Tatnam!
All in all a nice weekend at 'home' for me, the missus and the dog. Pity about the result but I'm sure the boys will bounce back on Saturday against Hendon.
