On my visit to the Ancient Town and Borough my cousin and I decided to part from Tradition and try the Antelope. Used to be used by various service clubs I think. Anyway two out of four cask ales were OFF. Both of our first choices from the Lunch menu were OFF On our second choice- phew- we apparently had the last two portions available A more vocal punter came in,well dressed chap and went through the same rigamorole..at which he let fly to all and sundry "are you lot running a bxxxxy pub or not!! Wouldn't be surprised,if like so many others it bites the dust!! its enough to drive OFs like me to Wethersthingys...and it did. And to those of you old enough to remember it brought back the memory of Peter Sellers and his famous OFF skit Anyone visiting the Uk usually has an 'Sorry Luv.thats off" story

Antelope shuts up shop at 10.30 on a Saturday night.Better off visiting Wethersthingys, one week left on its ciderfest.Courteous and hardworking barstaff and a good choice of ales and food at the right prices.

Ashley Cross is the best place for decent beers these days. It's certainly one of the best with three decent 'boozers' in close proximity.

BOOOOOOOOOOOORIIIIIIING! Ah, the Shah of Persia - still going strong I believe! I lived not far from the pub just past Linthorpe Road in Devon Road. Without looking at PTFC history it was Breakheart lane where it all began wasn't it?

Yes, The Shah is still there. I stayed there once on one of my trips to see the 'Dolphins' and I think you're right about Breakheart Lane too Steve. My dad used to talk about 'Breakheart Lane'.

My late father spoke about how 'The Shah' was used for the teams to change in before/after a game...He also spoke of Breakheart ground which was indeed the land between Linthorpe road and Hunt road.. Breakheart Road was basically what we know now as Fernside Road from the 'Shah' to The 'New Inn'...

"Breakheart ground"! I wonder how that (and, of course, Breakheart Lane) came to be called such an unusual name.
