I used to live in Branksome, at the top end of Library Road which leads down to the rec and am intrigued about where they intend sticking the ground (if permission is granted). In my day there was a cricket pitch on the right and various footy pitches on the left. Is it on the left?

Gosh DollyFinn! We were neighbours. I lived in Douglas Road when I was a child and went to Martin Road Primary School (Heatherlands now I think). I also lived in Alder Road, bnoth close to the rec. Have a look at the link to the Branksome Rec plans.

::)Where's the Library gone? Ex Gwynne Road resident reporting.
On the left at the "Steps End", lol maybe that's what we could call it, a bit like the Stretford End

Gwynne Road stfcinbmth? We were neighbours too! The library was an Andrew Carnegie library at the top of Library Road (of course!) near the junction with Shillito Road and the clinic. I can't remember what's there now though and I was there recently! Must be age!

Cheers Brian, I've now realised the cricket pitch has obviously long gone. Looks good though I can see why the local residents might be jittery about traffic (not that that will be an issue in the coming season)

Thanks DollyFinn. If you look closely at the overall plan of the rec you'll see that there is a cricket pitch sited between the football pitches on the right of the plan at the centre of the large circle (presumably the boundary of the cricket pitch).

;DThey did used to alternate the sighting of the cricket pitch to the left and right hand side of the pavillion, it was always fenced off with some rope if I remember rightly. This was back in the days when Charlie Squires's dad was parky lol
So Charlie where are you now? Still supporting AFCB I hope
I've always found cricket rather boring and didn't take much notice of the rope

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.............the more I hear about Branksome the less confident I get Are we building for the future?? If so, presumably the problems with the site will increase................or.......are we hoping that once installed the problems will be accepted??? Imagine Conference football at the Branksome site?? ...or... am I being too ambitious........but, the parking problems will only get worse the more successful we are, surely.

???Have to agree with you slepe. One of the pitches would have to go for parking, still have to say that two entrances and exits would be good, one on Recreation Road and one on Playfields Drive

By then of course we will have committed the cash............there will be no options. Then the locals would have a good argument. This season Wrexham ( I have played for them many moons ago, of course) have been relegated and their away support often exceeds 2000. Can you imagine accomodating that number at Branksome.

This could never be for anything more than Southern League. It's a green sports area with very limited parking. We'd need a brownfield site or the old Stadium for anything beyond that.

Can I have your autograph please slepe12? I had no idea I've been in discussion with an ex player of such heights! I think you're right DollyFinn, Branksome couldn't be developed much beyond Southern League. We need a millionaire! Mind you, I'd be quite happy to see the Town back to British Gas Southern Prem or Blue Square South (remember when leagues just described what was in them not who could buy them?)

Anyone ever speculated as to what the attendances for Poole Town would be like if a Mr Big lotto winner stepped forward and started funding their rise through the leagues. Poole is a big town but has little significant footy history and relatively low interest in the sport compared with most places of a similar size. However I could still imagine a club here getting crowds of 1500 if they made it to Conf level (not at Branksome Rec obviously!). There'd certainly be a few AFCB/Town dual season ticket holders.

I think you're right DollyFinn. Attendances were never, with rare exceptions, very large in the old days at the Stadium. As I have said many times recently, Poole is the second largest town in the country without a fully professional football team. I'd be very happy if we made it to SL or Conference level for starters though.

Although on a much larger scale Shrewsbury Town FC are obviously facing parking difficulties at their new stadium. The link supplied shows how the club is working to deal with parking demands and show it's possible to work with the community and council on this aspect of a ground move. www.shrewsburytown.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewStadiumIndex/0,,10443,00.html

Did anyone see the article in the Echo on Monday 23 June page 7 . It reported that £7.000 worth of damage by vandalism over the past few months on the Parkstone Sports Centre at Branksome Rec! Despite having CCTV, windows were smashed, gutters ripped off, lead removed from roof and gates recently replaced, ripped off again. It was reported that they had to continually put up with this yobbish behaviour on the club.
This does not look good for the future in this area, if this is the normal state of things to come.

See your point Dave, do we want these problems.............there would have to be some sort of security........wouldn't there??? It's been my experience that it can be very expensive

The Alder Road area being doorstepped tonight by those against the clubs proposed move. It seems a "survey" is being conducted, with a leaflet being left. The leaflet pretty much lists the concerns we have heard to date. Will get a copy to training tonight, to be passed to Chris for information.

;D I was passing the "B" rec on wednesday, can't understand what all the fuss is about. It's not going to be a fundemental change of use, all the sports and recreation currently enjoyed are remaining available............. So all that remains is some people would rather have a ramshackle building, than one that will be well maintained. Bizarre ;D

repeats of the same issues when so many are just not true and so many have been answered will not do our opponents much good--it does highlight the need for anyone who hasn't written to clive smith at PBC Leisure services supporting the scheme to do so however The Council are currently waiting on an analysis from consultants before deciding next step-the report is expected end July
