To put this season into perspective (& please correct me if my facts are incorrect), if we do get the results needed to lift the league title it will be the first since lifting the (old) Hants Div1 in 99/00 (when at Haskell's Rec., Vosper's were 2nd) & the first 'major' title since winning the Western League in 1956/57. Prior to that was the Western League in 1925/26.
Regardless of how close we are I am sure every team we have still to play will be desperate to beat us but, whatever happens, it has still been one of the most succesful season's in the clubs history.

I am very proud to be part of this. I suspect there might be a few tears on Saturday. Rereading the history of the Club shows how far the Club has come back. Floreat Dolphins

Was it 1956-7 probbo? I thought it was two or three years earlier than that when I first started following the Town.

I double checked my stats & 56/57 it was.
For those interested, after finishing bottom (of the Western League) in 51/52, Poole finished 3rd (52/53), 2nd (53/54), 8th (54/55), 2nd (55/56, start of the Stan Rickaby years) before winning the league in 56/57 finishing 9pts ahead of Trowbridge (2pts for a win in those days) & gaining promotion into the Southern League.
For those still interested, we finished 10th that first season & played against teams including Hereford Utd, Headington (Oxford Utd) & Cheltenham, all now in the football league of course. In the folowing seasons we would also play Cambridge Utd, Wimbledon & Barnet amongst others.

Oops, spot the deliberate(!) mistake above.
That's right, Oxford Utd are not currently a Football League club (though for how long is another debate).
