I was very disapointed with the game on Monday. Carl Chivers didnt look as sharp as on Saturday. He hasnt scored yet and he looked out of his depth on Monday. I think that he is too young to be in the tarting XI for the 1st team. Anyone else have other views??

Yep - have to agree.
Very disappointing result and performance against Lymington. I never mind us losing if we give our all and just get beaten by a better side but this was one of those really annoying defeats. Personally I felt US Portsmouth played better than Lymington and yet, whilst Lymington were well organised, I really felt we should be able to beat them.
The whole Poole side just looked disjointed and totally lacking in any ideas going forward. With the exception of Funnell and the excellent Ollie Cherrett at the back they all just looked lost.
There was no shape and for much of the match there was just a huge gap between the front two and the midfield. We were far too deep and so the only option we had when we had the ball was to launch it down field and hope that the 2 strikers (against 4 or 5 defenders) would create a chance. Not only was this not pretty to watch but it was never going to result in a goal.
Certainly we looked a bit more potent when Lee Manning went up front towards the end and there is no doubt that we are simply lacking firepower up front. It's no secret that Tommy is desperately looking to sign a striker or two and we also need a fit Warrington asap.
We have talented midfielders who can create but where are the likes of Matty Hayfield, Danny Robbins, Ryan Woolfenden? Are they injured?? Certainly Ryan has been playing in reserves.....? Doug - any updates on these players?
Yesterday felt a lot like last season....... yes we will beat the Fawleys and Aldermastons comfortably but as soon as we come up against a top side then we just don't / can't do it......... Early days I know and hopefully yesterday was a blip!!
Will update website tonight if I get a chance (and have calmed down after yesterday's performance!)
Cheers,

Yes we were poor yesterday, although Carl could do nothing with the hopeful punts up the pitch for him to chase after. I thought Boris had a far worse game. There is no doubt that we need something extra up front, and Im sure that Tommy is looking to strengthen in that area.
Agree completely about the lack of creativity, I would certainly have included Ryan if he is fit as he gives you that bit extra going forward from the midfield.
I also find it strange that Spillane is keeping Harvell out of goal. Spillane makes several errors and after giving away a goal on Saturday, very nearly did yesterday when he kicked the ball straight at the Lymington forward. Jason is a quality keeper and should be given his chance soon, anyone else agree?
At the end of the day you are bound to have the odd bad day, and I still believe that the team will come good in the next few weeks
Lets keep getting behind the lads

Agree that more fire power is needed up front as the team seem to create chances like yesterday in the first 20 mins but fail to put any of the 3 to 4 decent chances away. This happens regularly.
Other teams seem to only have a couple of chances and score one of them, which then puts pressure on the defence/keeper to ensure no mistakes are made.
In a whole game the team must get in to double figures always with chances yet don't score, other teams only have 1 or 2 and score.
I don't think you can blame the keeper out of 4 goals conceded 1 has been down to him, the other 3 were down to mistakes by other players. Agree Harvell may be quality yet if we dropped all players due to mistakes made we wouldn't have a team!

Re missing players... Matt Hayfield has been unavailable so far, but my understanding is that he will be back shortly (perhaps this weekend?). Ryan is still recovering from injury - I think he played part of a reserve team game and concluded he wasn't ready yet. No idea about Danny Robbins, however. Re the performance.... I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned Taffy's absence. Taffy's been the midfielder that gets up and down the pitch the most - his not playing I think explains both the reversion to hopeful long balls and the lack of support from midfield for the strikers. This of course begs the question of whether we are going to be too dependent on Taffy for on-pitch leadership and direction (as we clearly were on Kempy last season). I thought that the bickering between players made an unwelcome return yesterday as frustration grew. I'm not sure knocking Carl is helpful - e.g. "he hasn't scored yet". He's only played two competitive first team games! I'm not sure any striker would have thrived on the service from midfield in yesterday's game, and I thought Carl showed very well against USP on Saturday. Hardly enough time to conclude he's "too young"? Still, I thought Poole Fan's reference to yesterday's "tarting XI" was unintentionally (?) spot on!

Re: Keeper
Im not blaming Spills for all of the goals conceded so far, I was trying to highlight the fact that we all know he mistakes and yet we have a quality keeper in Harvell waiting to play. If we dont put him in soon then we will lose him.

Give the poor lad a break! There are 14/15 others in the squad, what about a comment on their performance? Having said that, Carl has come from U16 Sunday football and I think he's done really well so far. Ok so he's not scored but he's played his part with some lovely ACURATE passing, altho' the team don't play to his strengths. But must say, in the 30 odd years I've been watching football from U6 -> Premiership I've never heard a team bicker like Poole Town. What are your priorities? Playing the game to get a result or a Saturday afternoon moan? You can do that down the pub without the audience!

I think it's unfair to criticize Carl considering the progress he's made and who's to say that he might not have done better with the chances that fell to others.
The team was on the whole disappointing against Lymington and I'am concerned that without one or two players the team spirit seemed to vanish as did the midfield (Funnell excluded).Taffy is very important but I hope that the team does not fall apart everytime he is missing otherwise last season could repeat itself.
Does anyone know the exten of Warrington's injury? He seems to able to take part in the half time kick about and we are in need of cover upfront.

Having watched the game yesterday and reading the comments made above about Funnell I am really surprised. Yes he is a very good player, creative and runs all day, however it only ever seems to be going forward and not doing the hard work that I saw Darren Reeks doing to cover Funnell's lack of interest in tracking back.
It's a team effort and when you don't have players prepared to do the hard work first, like Taffy and Reeks then you will loose goals due to runners not being marked.
It's very early days and I am sure Tommy Killick will have them all sorted by the next game. That's the great thing about football everyone has a different opinion!!
On that, I think Spilane is an excellent goalkeeper...

Good to see so much input and so many opinions!!
Reading through all the comments I would add the following:-
I'd like to see Harvell given a chance in goal as well. He is very highly rated and I fear we will lose him as well. Spills certainly does have the experience and makes some fine saves in most games. Very good shot stopper. There is usually a fairly big blunder around the corner though and goals are usually a result! Wouldn't want to lose him though...........
Have to agree with Doug about the bitching between players again on Monday. I know they are passionate about winning but surely the only benefit of this is to encourage the opposition? Boris in particular was way over the top in his abuse at practically every Poole player. An excellent player, dont get me wrong, but on Monday if his finishing had been half as sharp as his tongue............!
Will be glad to see Hayfield back in the side that's for sure. And yes - definitely missed Taffy but can't afford to rely on him in a similar way to last year when if Karim wasn't in the side we just didn't win games............
Now all we need is to persuade Gary Funnell's dad to put his boots back on and we'll be sorted!!
Cheers,
Steve B

How bizarre!!!
Just re-read my comment above and notice that it says 'pregnant doging'!!!! What the hell?? It is meant to read 'persistant bitching'!!! and that's what I typed!!

OK - have finally stopped laughing!!! ;D
Now noticed my message above has come out the same! OK - what I actually wanted to say was 'persistant b.i.t.c.h.i.n.g' but obviously it has taken the word 'b.i.t.c.h' and converted that to 'pregnant dog'!!!!!!!
I'd like to refute any accusations that our players have been getting involved with any dogs - pregnant or otherwise!

I did wonder - sounded like a strange variation on something Stan Collymore admitted to doing.
I'm curious what the message board censor would make of all sorts of words now. Here goes
"I'm really pissed off with Joe Bloggs - he's a complete f**king thingy. not a very nice person! The worst referee I've ever seen - absolutely nuts! And his wife's a sleeper. "
For avoidance of doubt, I was just testing - I actually think all referees are great. (bullnuts)

Thats hilarious Steve On the football forum everyones talking about some movement in and out of our club. Aaron Turner and Brad Asaba comming in I know Turner is quality and heard of Asaba but not seen him apparently played Dr Martens with Tonbridge, Are the/ have they signed, if so Do you think it would improve things. Turner does have a proven record at our standard. And apparently Marc Jackson wants to leave is this true? As he did well when he played last season

I think the teams major problem Is a top draw strike force.
Since we had Karim and Jamie its been up to one person to score the goals. We need two strikers who can score regularly at this level. Everyone ones been mentioning Aaron Turner including myself but Its getting boring now for what ever reason he hasnt signed yet so maybe we should look at other avenues. To be fair Lee Cornincks good enough but lacks that extra bit of quality which is why we need another top draw striker and a bit of invention, which Ryan Wolfenden provided last season but I've seen him in two matches for the second team and he's not looked that effective, maybe injury I dont know. But its a problem. Apart him Gary Funnell is the only one in the squad with a bit of invention. I think until we address those two problems nothing much is going to change.
