Yesterday’s defeat left us with 42 points, probably enough to avoid relegation but with 27 games played there are a possible 45 points to play for. To get into the playoffs we would need a minimum of 70 points. That is 1.87 points per game or more realistically 2 points per game. Or to put it bluntly we cannot afford more than 5 more draws OR three more defeats, 2 points per game is title winning form.
Realistically we are safe from relegation but from now on we must play our strongest team without fear or favour and we must get behind the team as much as we can.

Would still love to make them & get back up. Especially as it looks like Budsmouth are going to get relegated! But if we don't go up, there is always next season. This season has been enjoyable so far. Even more so after 2 curtailed seasons. What ever league/division we end up in next season, hopefully something more concrete (metaphorically & literally) will come into the light about the clubs long term future before then.

Looking at the remaining fixtures for all teams currently above us it should be a interesting run in as example Taunton's last 7,games include games against all of the play offs teams with plenty of other teams around the top sides having to play each other me thinks it could be very tight come end of the season.COYD

Looking at the current table I reckon it could be closer to 8o points needed - so agree John - feels like season already over as enough points to avoid relegation but play offs a stretch too far.
So I hope we adopt some attacking innovative tactics even if that means we lose the odd game with this approach - as need attractive football to get the crowds in. Also any promising youth players get an opportunity. Need to start thinking about building for next season now.

After tonight's defeat it's looking like a midtable finish or a little lower but hopefully the clubs leaders are set to give us some good news regards the clubs new ground I see Poole retail park has been brought for around 50 mil ,plenty of space for a footie pitch plus other developments.COYD.

Thx Happy for your optimism
sounds as if we lost this game in typical Poole Fashion Squandered chances in first half Retreating continuously in second half leaving a converted mid fielder alone up top I don't care what league we are playing in those tactics lead to the inevitable Now. Lets win that DSC!! and look forward to that "Mine is better than yours" New Stadium

OK Todays History Lesson
Poole Retail Park previously Redland Pipes previously Sharp Jones Pottery
A mile or so away from there was the George Jennings South Western Pottery George Jennings was a londoner who came down to Paradise and using the local clays produced large clay sewer pipes There was a diminutive engine named "George Jennings" which shuttled between the Pottery and Parkstone Station, I remember it clearly. George Jennings the engine met its fate many years ago BUT there is an engine of the same class and production nAmed "Henry Cort" still extant in the midlands.

Certainly lost to the villagers in “typical Poole fashion” as we so often do. Typical Poole fashion on Saturday as well. peterlep is right, time to build for next season and, hopefully, shore up our leaky defence.
Thanks for another interesting history lesson expat. Can you tell more precisely where that old train ran from and to - and when it stopped running?

Behind my old signal box at Branksome was the line called the 'Bourne Valley Tramway' to what is now Sainsbury's in Alder Hills ... That line ran more or less through the retail park that sold for £58 Million smackaroonies!! www.irsociety.co.uk/Archives/1/Bourne%20Valley.htm

The line ran from Parkstone Station to the South Western Pottery bringing in coal Originally there was a NG line down to Salterns pier which loaded the finished product if you google George Jennings and Parkstone you will come across some incredible history including Jennings exhibition of W/c and the origins of spend a penny! His associates late went to S America where they founded Uruguayan Football team Penarol

Thanks very much for the link to the Bourne Valley Tramway article Steve. Longer ago than I care to recall, my mum and dad lived on Alder Road very close to where the tramway crossed Alder Road (near what is Herbert Avenue I think).I remember it as a footpath with quite a steep drop for a railway line down towards the gasworks and close to the Bournemouth Gasworks F C ground (for whom my dad told me he'd played - mind you, he also told me that he'd played for Poole and I'm not sure about either). Anyway, it brought back some fairly happy memories of Alder Road, Branksome Rec. and Upper Parkstone - thanks again!

Night Owl and Hole in the wall were places to stop on the way home. And you could sometimes be entertained with a boozy punch up while waiting for your order. VFM.

As of today, 6th February 2022;- if the league was decided only on most goals scored, we'd be 4th; if the league was decided on fewest goals conceded we'd be 16th. So what do we need for next season?

A bigger squad. A couple of injuries and all of a sudden we're playing Centre Halves up front and the bench is full of kids (who the manager doesnt seem to trust fully) and players who were at their best 5 years ago (with the utmost respect to Hubbsy and Devs). Obviously carrying a bigger squad means extra players so the sooner 'The Big Announcement' comes to give us some certainty to help attract them the better.

Definitely need to find away of dealing with crosses & corners better. All the goals on Saturday were conceded in that way. If Tony Lee is still with us next season perhaps find someone to play alongside him. If we are more attacking & spend more time in the opponent's half, then they can't score. Certainly at home would like to see a more attacking way of playing. Scoring more goals, increases the entertainment on offer, which should lead to larger attendances. Thus more gate money plus additional bar, shop, 50/50 sales. Away from home we need to travel better somehow.

Two years in April. At the beginning of 2019 we were told we would “hopefully” be able to be let in on the big secret. While we have to make allowances for COVID, two years is still a long time. I also agree with baileypete that a new stadium is far more important than the playoffs.

Thx John Two years is far too long for some positive news on the proposed site of our "New Stadium" Ultimately not giving us a glimmer of hope is surely having a demoralising effect on most fans(with the exception of course of the .T.. R.......!!). I note that the Hammers are top of the Wessex and good luck to them! Who in their wildest dreams would have though that that we could soon see them as equal competitors? never mind the decline and fall of the Roman Empire this is Poole Town(of the former Southern League) vs Hamworthy United (formerly Dorset Combination) What football times we live in!!

Interestingly enough our neighbors Hamworthy got a crowd of 661 for their FA Vase game against Tonbridge. Things seem to be on the up for the Hammers.

Come in W. Barrington Dalby...oops i forgot he is long gone(RIP) so perhaps the Twa Robbies or one of our oh-so-promising BOD can restore some optimism, cos it looks pretty dark out there doesn't it?
