On 21/8/13 according to Love my town.co.uk the 3 biggest towns without a football league team were (1) Warrington 165, 456 (2) Slough 155,298 (3) Poole 154,718. Planning permission for the building of blocks of flats across the borough could make us Top of the Pops!.

To be fair, Warrington are really Rugby League, never going to be a football town. Slough, like Poole would have been by now if it were not for actions verging on criminal by previous owners and both were denied promotion owing to ground grading.
The Slough story is quite sad. They were a few tens of seats short. The owner would not pay for them insisting that the Council should or he would sell the club without the ground. The Ground was built just outside the boundary between Slough and South Bucks so the club were not even located within the borough. Anyway Their hands were tied, and he walked off into the sunset. Despite the Council finally finding a way around the problem (that he had created it building outside the Borough) he stuck to his guns. The upshot was Slough played at Windsor then Beaconsfield for years, only recently returning home.

Agree John But I think 'virgins on criminal' should probably read 'verging on criminal'. As virgins are normally completely innocent!

I think you could say on a national level Poole is more associated with speedway than football certainly in the past.

The Pirates are consistently up there whatever league they are competing in
i cannot personally back much further than the "Glory Days" of Mink and Mannion Utd, followed by our eventual but long delayed entry into the Southern League and then, highlight for me, the great display at Watford under Ray King
UP THE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN!!

Think in the 60s Northampton Town went from the fourth to the first division in 4 successive seasons. Or is that just cobblers?! Almost correct! Northampton were promoted three times in the five years 1960 to 1965. Starting the 1960–61 season in the Fourth Division, they reached the First Division in 1965–66, their only season ever in the top division of English football. They were then relegated back to the Fourth Division over the next five years, playing in the bottom tier again in 1969–70.

I was going to post tomorrow the usual 4th = blah blah months but I have to admit that the quality of the new signings coming through the door for next season are somewhat remarkable. I listened to Andy Rossiter a while ago and felt if what he was saying comes true then we could look forward to a decent season well I, think that is now assured. If as he also spoke about the ‘the Ground issue’ starts to materialise as the new players have I think we will all be a lot happier going forward. I will be renewing my season ticket as I think this will be a great Season on and hopefully before long off the field as well.

Are the shoes dropping? Ringwood Raceway(Matchams to us elderly folk) is closing...so no immediate alternative oval for the Pirates in the event of an exit from the The Stadium. Perhaps a compressed Stadium is on the cards? dogs are gone so... 1. Pirates continue on present oval and Stadium moves inwards 2. Pirates return to original circuit easily facilitating PTFC pitch much rebuilding needed but could be a lot cheaper than a brand new facility, and which could still be used by both sports. .....and your old men shall dream dreams!!

Intresting article in this Sundays edition of the non-league paper by Andy Mitchell in which he mentions that club officials (as mentioned before) shall will be meeting up with senior Politicians and staff of BCP Council in August to furnish plans for a 6000 seater stadium initially and then the ability to increase too between 10,000 - 12,000 capacity. With the project costing in excess of 10m which is set to be driven by private investment. Also mentioned was that it will not involve the current Poole stadium. So we all look forward to some exciting news sometime in August. COYD.

It’s good to get some more details and it certainly sounds very ambitious and exciting 😊
But, do we really need a 12,000 seat stadium when there are only usually 300 of us watching? I mean a £10million pound stadium is extortionate for a southern premier league side!

If we have serious ambitions of playing league football then the bigger the better.

I'd certainly need more people to help with the 50/50, takes me long enough to get around the ground as it is

Ultimately, a 6,000 seater stadium is the starting point with a sizeable main stand and expansion will depend on what level we’re playing football, so it’s a win win 👍🏻

Don't think a 6,000 all seater will be needed for quite awhile. To get into the conference national we need a minimum capacity of 4,000. Not sure what % has to be seats. Football League is 4,000 with a 500 seat minimum. With the need to increase to 5,000, with 1,000 seats. Don't know how long you need to comply. As & when (& if) we reach those giddy heights. If ever do get promoted as far as League Two at least will be guaranteed of one thing. We will automatically qualify for the FA Cup 1st Round!

BTW I am hoping August 26th will be a home fixture UP THE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN!! I think Mao said "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" but it amounts to the same. Promotion next season would be a very good first "single step". August 26th a home fixture? I presume that means you'll be there if it is expat my friend. That should add a few extra fans to the attendance! COYD
