According to Twitter (Hayes and Yeading and retweeted by Poole Twitter feed) the Southern League are holding a conference call this afternoon to discuss the situation and (I assume) if games will be cancelled as they have been in the professional Leagues.
Possibly understandable but it would be just our luck that the pitch is playable and we lose another home game for something completely beyond our control!

Know this isn't going to a popular view. But more people die of flu without anything being shut down. So I don't understand the panic over this new virus.

I think I read somewhere that one of H&Y,s players has the symptoms of it so it may mean just their game being postponed.

Know this isn't going to a popular view. But more people die of flu without anything being shut down. So I don't understand the panic over this new virus. Untrue. The death rate from seasonal flu is typically around 0.1%. The death rate for covid-19 certainly appears higher but it depends also on other factors, the individual's age, location etc. For instance, in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the outbreak, the death rate reached 2.9%; in other provinces of China, that rate was just 0.4%. There are too many variables and too little known at this time to just make a sweeping statement like that Dave. Let's get the facts first, but if it means using the term "better safe than sorry", i know what I would prefer.

As one of the “at risk” prophecy I would also prefer to be safe than sorry. The problem is that there is no immunity in the population. Therefore most will probably get it. I have heard 4 out of 5, from a very reliable source. The same reliable source said that if there were one respirator and both I and a fit 22 year old needed it, I would be the one to miss out.

The numbers are the other way around, they estimate (currently at least) that 1 in 5 will get it, keep in mind that is still over 13 million people so this is still pandemic levels and will have a massive impact. Around the respirator thing, that is true, I work at the hospital and those conversations are definitely taking place, put simply if there are hundreds of thousands seriously ill then there won't be enough equipment to go around and patients will be assessed on a 'likely to recover' basis and care rationed accordingly.

Wow! Welsh Dolphin Darwinism lives!!(I say that as a 75 yr old with a few health issues} Your mission Welsh Dolphin, should you accept it is to ensure that a few old PTFC fans survive to reach the promised land(we are not allowed to know where that is) and see us in our new ground. Stay Well All. Everything is shutting down over here....but Expat hopes to be around to be a PIA for a few seasons yet
UP THE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN!!!

Surprisingly, the National League South continues. I'm not expecting or asking you to become instant Terras fans, but we are home to fellow play off contenders Slough today. Should be good game, so if you fancy a footy fix why not pop down the road?

Wessex League also still in action. Pity Hamworthy aren't at home, then you could have watched football & self isolated at the same time! 😉

Well done;a strategic win and should get you into the Semi Final playoffs Can you give us the crowd figures..I ask that just to get all the old collaborators on here going on why Weymouth have this that and the other because........ We can only hope that one season in the not too distant future that we have a presentable home ground and with it a team that has the ambition and drive to fulfill its objectives.(one of which of course is to beat the auld foe!)

I did Christchurch yesterday - strange atmosphere - a bit like the end of term at school. I note that the DPL played yesterday..but I guess big crowds are not a problem there!!! End of Term at At school??? 1960 The roof and quadrangle at PGS were whitewashed "Down with Skool" this was preceded a few weeks earlier by the, at the time sensational, "Lord Godiva Rides Tonight" where for a bet our intrepid hero rode naked on a motorbike through Poole Park!! The local matrons were not amused however and the offender was expelled(they didn't need a committee to do that in those days!) The rest of us thought of these events as great pranks!!

My proposal would be to suspend all football until Easter. Then extend the season to end of May. No play offs. Straight promotion/relegation. If necessary postpone the extra leagues at Step 4&5 until end off next season. The delay will give leagues time to reschedule fixtures & clubs deal with extending player's contracts. All cup competitions not yet completed to remain so. The remaining prize money in the FA Cup, Trophy & Vase to be used to compensate clubs & players affected by the stoppage. At our level many players will already have booked holidays in May. Of course travel restrictions may still be in place, so hopefully compensated by travel insurance, but if not, might need compensating for money they can't now get back. Of course if the crisis is still as bad then, then think the season should be null & void at non league level & start again in August in our present leagues.

Very sad, especially for clubs like ours, whose BOD have behaved in a financially responsible way. For those clubs whose BODs haven't feel sorry for the fans & players. Hopefully in most cases the ground will be safe & the phoenix club that replaces them will have a ground to play at.

I don't know much about the financial in's and out's, but I think that we are all agreed that it would have been a struggle to complete our fixture list on time. If this is a season long suspension then could it have done us a favour in a roundabout way?. Are the players payed per game ?.

There are two tupes of player, contract and non contract. Contract players get played whether they play or not. Non contract players get played if they play.

It's a bit of a conundrum how the FA will square the circle regarding final league standings. How will bookmakers settle ante-post bets?. Do they pay out on Liverpool, or will they all become null and void with punters getting their money back?. Good, the general public might say, but a disaster for football in general, who are happy enough to hold out their hand and grasp the cash when it suits, and just as quick to become judgemental when it doesn't.With many clubs teetering on the brink, a downturn in revenue from the gambling industry could prove to be a major turning point in football as we currently know it.

On problem that faces all clubs, is how to compensate season ticket holders for home matches not played. Poole's situation more stark than most. We have only played 9 home matches. Season ticket price £195. £195 / 9 = £21.67 per match as apposed to £9.28 for the 21 that should have taken place. I doubt the club is in a position to refund anything or offer reduced prices as and when the next season takes place. Anyone got any ideas as how the club can bridge this impossible gap? Ifnightmare of cancelling this season comes to pass. Hopefully though football will be back from mid April to end of May and the season will get completed. COYD 🐬

It's hardly fair to compare expat with the likes of Judas Dave. I'm not trying to be holier than thou, but anyone who buys a season ticket in the certain knowledge that he won't see a single match must be a fairly solid supporter irrespective of his views on the future of the club. Expat is a true fan. I waved my season ticket at one of the several games I attended one season only to be told that it was a cup match (FA Trophy I think) and I'd have to pay, which I did. A season ticket is, in many respects, a donation. I think it would be quite wrong to expect any sort of refund in the present circumstances (excepting dire financial straits of the ticket holder of course). As someone has already indicated, it is the very survival of Poole Town F C that is at risk now.

Premier and Football Leagues have been suspended until at least 3Oth April. I expect that the Southern & all other leagues will follow suit. It's possible that they might allow the lower leagues to resume earlier than the PL as long as gates are limited to less than 500 as this was the 'large gatherings' cut off to start with and it might be that as we get to the 'other end of the curve' they might allow 'small gatherings' to test herd immunity before they put larger events back on. I honestly still can't see that being before the end of April though.
