www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/17976415.hayes-yeading-probably-thought-cake-walk---former-poole-skipper-carl-poore-looks-back-cup-clash-nine-years/In my personal opinion this is one of the best articles I’ve written in my five years covering the Dolphins. It’s definitely my favourite! Some great quotes from Carl Poore about a big occasion. I’m currently on placement at the Echo, and we’re producing quite a few articles ahead of Poole’s crunch FA Cup tie. Keep your eyes peeled. There’s another preview piece with Jake Smeeton, one of two current players still with the club that played that day, in Saturday’s paper. Love to hear any feedback and your personal memories! I must admit I trawled through the forum whilst doing a bit of research and enjoyed reading people's thoughts at the time.

Whilst we're on the topic - the winner of Hayes and Yeading v Poole Town will be ball number 72 in Monday's draw.

Sunday 20th November 1983 v Newport County at the stadium. I can remember long queues at the tea bar end waiting to get in. The Poole team that day according to the programme was; 1. Martyn Jones 2 Brian Chambers 3Kevin Mulkern 4 Kevin Allen 5 Neil Merrick 6 Ashley Coombes 7 Mark Baber 8 Ray Ames 9 Phil Matthews 10 Derek Courtney 11 Nicky Bridle 12 Martin Stormont. Newport had John Aldridge at number 8 before he went on to bigger things. 0-0 draw and I think we lost the replay 3-1?.

There are a few of us out there who can recall the heroics of Ray Kings "Town" in 1962. Imagine if you will a 4th Qualifying round home draw vs the seemingly invincible Terras. We drew at the Stadium 0-0 as i recall. A few hardy souls made the pilgrimage to Weymouth(old ground) on the following Tuesday. Two great goals, one from Peter Bellett and the clincher a thundering 30yd volley from Ray Middleton put us through to an away tie at Watford. Red and white striped umbrellas at Vicarage Rd!! a great following by the faithful and 11 heroes on the pitch. I will never forget Colin Osmond, blood streaming down his face from a hard knock, heading in the equaliser in a 2-2 draw. We lost 1-2 in front of a multitude at The Stadium(11,000??) and please don't ever tell me that "its too far away from the fans". They heard us,we witnessed a great game and even in defeat the pride in our team went on for a long time. Dennis Pring scored our goal on a penalty and I think Jimmy Linton was Watford's goalie. He later came to play for us UP THE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN!!

There should be a photo of Colin in the Football Echo archives(if such exist)after his heroics.

Still see Colin walking to the paper shop on Waterloo, so he is still up and about and active.

There was also an interview in the NLP last Sunday with Jack Dickinson, under the headline Poole Take The Plunge To End Hoodoo. Don't know if was put on line. If so can someone post a link to it please, as I can't. Three separate articles in the echo today (thanks to Mr Tanner) & one in the NLP last week. Just imagine....if we actually do make it. Too nervous tonight to contemplate what might happen.
