Wimborne now 2-0 up. This cup doesn't matter but we ought to be able to beat Wimborne even with a 'changed' eleven. COYD

And our goalie is doing well I hear! Are Wimborne at full strength I wonder?

They have also made a few changes from their strongest eleven, no Toby Holmes, Franklyn Clarke, Matt Oldring for example

Looking at the line ups i would say they are not at full strength but they have a stronger looking back 4 than us and a couple more first team players C.O.Y.D

Makes one wonder doesn't it. If this team was announced pre-match for a game at BlackGold would you shell out 10 quid for it? I think it shows just how much importance teams place on league cups, especially in our case where we have bigger fish to fry(as they say in Fleetwood!!) on Saturday. Taffy could make the difference in the second half!!!!

In Golden days of Yore (Must be getting towards Christmas!!) that result would have been posted
Wimborne Res. 3 Poole Town "A" 0
..and yes we did run an A team back in Western/Southern league days. I think they played in the Dorset Combination
That,s Combination as in Football League not Harvesters or wooly undies!!

Don't know about Brennan (I hope he did okay for his sake) but sources tell me that the Macedonian player didn't distinguish himself on this occasion.

This game served a great purpose in terms of us being able to look at a number of young players and see how they fared in a "real game". I left the ground absolutely buzzing with the quality that we had seen produced by some of the lads that were given their chance. The game was all about performance and not the result. It is an open draw in the next round and we won't get desperately upset about not having to travel hundreds of miles midweek for a league cup tie played in front of a sparse crowd. Our fixture congestion is bad enough as it is. Make no mistake last night's performance showed we have some real talent at the Club.

Totally agree with what Chris has printed as it was the same for Wimborne and the people who turned up on a very cold night saw two young teams play they way football should be played and the young talent for both clubs were there to be seen.

The 3rd round draw is now on the Southern League website. Wimborne Town have been drawn at home to Bideford. But equally it could have been a trip to North Devon on Tuesday 18th December. Can't imagine many will be making the treck in the opposite journey to to Dorset either. Disappointed to lose of course. But players selected gave their best. Got another senior match experience. Still don't know why the not only the Southern League, but other leagues continue with a competition that not many are interested in. Especially in an already crowded fixture list.

Here are Wimborne highlights of the game. Unfortunately it was so cold last night and Jordan has just returned from illness, so he only managed to record half the game. It also appears to be corrupted - possibly due to the bitter cold. I’ll keep trying to recover them but I’m not hopeful.
I’ve got my usual clips from behind the goal just being uploaded I’ll post them later.

On Twitter it stated that Taffy Richardson was brought on towards the end of this game. If that's true and if it was in recognition of his sterling services over many years to both clubs competing on the night, then I think it was quite a nice gesture! Well done Taffy and thanks again!
