From their website.
During the winter of their first season (1994) at the new ground, the entire island of Portland had to be evacuated whilst an unexploded wartime bomb - found underneath the penalty area of their old ground - had to be defused!
They played for decades on top of an unexploded bomb in the penalty area. The groundsman always thought the ticking noise was from the cheap watch he wore...

Thanks juvenal. It's a good job my dad didn't know that when he reffed there 60 plus years ago. He certainly wouldn't have let me watch!
Meanwhile, I gather it's 1-1 at the Black Gold at the moment.

FT 7-1 Portland are two leagues below us in the pyramid but it's still a good performance and augurs well for Jake S.

When a prisoner escaped from the Verne or the Borstal the police simply closed off the causeway to all traffic Got stopped a few times in case there was a criminal hiding behind the sausages and pies in the van!!

I didn't realise that I actually managed to catch 4 of the 7 goals on Tuesday! I've just got round to uploading my iphone clips and see I caught Scrimmy's second hattrick and Sampson's final goal. Here they are.
