Excerpts from" They had seaweed on the pitch "
The first football in Poole was actually played in 1649, an eye-witness account appeared in 'The beating of the bounds',it read," Having seen younge men disporting themselves in a kinde of footballe".
Poole FC formed around 1880 when hated rivals, Poole Hornets & Poole Rovers amalgamated. The 2 teams disliked each other so much, that one time when they were due to meet in the Dorset Junior Final, the DFA moved the game 11 miles away to Wareham , to stop fans from travelling !
Our first ground was at Sterte, apparently near the waters edge.
After the 14/18 war, PTFC was reformed, & had a new ground at Breakheart lane(Linthorpe Rd.), the teams had to get changed in one of the bars in The Shah of Persia public house !
In 1929, due to financial reasons, the club was unable to carry on, it was reformed in 1930 as an amateur club, but sadly Breakheart Lane was gone, having been sold off to builders.
Alderman Stokes kindly lent the club a field in Oakdale rent free, club officials, supporters & players went to work to level out the pitch& to build a stand.
We played there until Poole Stadium was ready for use.

The Directors will continue to strive for the best Football for Poole, but, & its a large but, we can only do this if the public of Poole rally round & give their support to the club,
86,000 people in the Borough, how nice it would be to see a lot more in the stadium for matches .
