As someone who lived within 2 miles of Stag Meadow, I am sad today at the mess that caused the demise of the Royalists.
Like Leeds, they tried to live the dream and have paid for it. Luckily for them the ground is owned by the Crown Estate and I believe that they pay just a peppercorn rent of £1 per year.
They will probably reform at Step 5 in the Hellenic League. That is their real level IMHO.
Meanwhile rivals Slough Town, just across the Thames are still ground-sharing after over a decade without their own ground (sound familiar).
In Non League football the big towns that have never had a FL teams are:
1. Dudley. 150,00+ pop Step 6 2. Poole. 130,000+ pop Step 5 3. Slough 120,000+ pop Step 4
Of course it would make sense to W&E to merge with Slough, solving two problems BUT most W&E fans would rather fold that merge with "the enemy".

Yes, it's a shame when this happens and even more so if it is not the fault of the club itself - although from what you say John it may have been self inflicted in this case.
If Slough and Windsor and Eton did amalgamate what would they become;- Slotowin? Wintough? Winethepough?

More on Slough Town Brian. The local Sikh communtity now want the land for Slough's new ground. "The Sikh trust intending to build a secondary school in Slough has name the proposed new home of Slough Town FC as its ideal site.
The Slough Sikh Education Trust says the old Arbour Vale Schools site, in Stoke Road, is the only one that can be supported under the Government's free school initiative.
But they were told when meeting council officials last month that it has already been allocated to bring the Rebels back into town, with proposals well under way.
Nick Singh Kandola, chairman of The Slough Sikh Education Trust, which is already associated with Khalsa Primary School directly next door in Wexham Road, said they are 'disappointed' with the council.
Once a site is found, the school - with 50 per cent of places reserved for children of the Sikh faith and 50 per cent places open for local children of other or no faith - would open in September 2012.
Cllr Rob Anderson, council leader, said the football plan would also bring other sports facilities, community uses and affordable family housing.
Steve Easterbrook, Slough Town FC chairman, said the club - currently based in Beaconsfield, where the average gate is 257 - should be moving forward in the next few weeks.
The West Wing Arts Centre on the Arbour Vale site is set to be incorporated into the new library and cultural centre as part of the Heart of Slough regeneration project."However Brian, I have it on good authority that the football club will get their ground. The clue is in the name. JohnA(nderson)

Got you John! And I'm glad. I've nothing against Sikhs but I am opposed to the government so-called 'free schools'!

Not in this case Sterte. I believe that the politicians will stick to their promises. At a recent family gathering, I was told of this "stunt" but as the plans for the area include not only the football club but a number of other community amenities, the change to use as a school, would upset loads of people.
