Final score tonight at Swindon... Swindon 44 - Poole 52, we are now 17 points clear at the top of the table.... Excellent Steve. I've been looking at some of the stuff on the Pirates own web site and the riders appear to be smothered in so many adverts these days that it's almost to the exclusion of the club logos!! I could hardly see the skull & cross bones which used to take up the whole of the front of Poole riders' jackets and as for the opposition, I couldn't see any!! Mind you, the action looks much the same as I remember it!

It maybe obvious, but 2 seasons ago the mighty Pirates were the no.1 team, last season they were close to the bottom, and this season back on top, but, how come?
What went wrong last season and right again this season,im sure it must be to do with riders leaving and new ones coming in,but it is a massive turn around.

What went wrong last season and right again this season,im sure it must be to do with riders leaving and new ones coming in,but it is a massive turn around. Every season the clubs are allocated 41 points to pick a team, therefore riders are worth points subject to how the previous season has gone etc. Because of the bad run last year some of the the Poole riders who rode for Poole last year have 'low' averages, so therefore there was more room for better riders this year. Next year will no doubt be a struggle due to all the Poole riders doing very well!! The 'Pole' Artur Mroczka has been the ultimate find this year for Poole, he started in the reserve berth on a 4.00 average but is now a Heat leader on an average of 7.23 thanks to some outstanding racing this season!! You will know what I mean when you see him in August Brian!!!

I see that the Pirates are 12 points adrift after the first leg of their Elite League Championship pay off at Coventry last night. That's quite a bit to make up isn't it? If they lose it will be a travesty after winning the league comfortably - but that's pay-offs I suppose!

Personally I think 12 points will not be a problem espeically at 'Fortress' Wimborne road!! even the bees wanted around a 20 point advantage to have a chance of winning the final. Anyway we will be there at Wimborne road next Monday to see the pirates lift the cup!!

What a disappointment and what a shame after topping the league so convincingly! I notice that Poole - aware the title had gone and probably devastated - conceded three 1-5s near the end made it look even worse! Oh well, there's always the Cup (or Trophy or whatever it is called). Hope it didn't ruin your evening too much you two!!

To be honest Brian, Poole were not on song and really were not up for it at all!! What a real shame as it had been such a good season and winning the league so comfortably too!!! Oh well we have the Mickey Mouse cup to go for now with a meeting at Peterborough Thursday...

I see the Pirates take a 7 point lead into the Cup (or is it Trophy?) semi-final second leg Steve. I hope you and Mandy enjoy it a lot more this time and the Pirates beat Eastbourne in the final (like we did in the Vase)!

Well it's that time of year again to dust those jackets off ready for a pelting from the good old shale!! Poole kick off the season today with a 'behind doors' press/practice day this afternoon, where the squad is shown to the press and sponsors. The team this season has one english rider in Kyle Newman who incidentally steps up into the elite league this year having ridden for Bournemouth in 2009, he will take turns at No.7 with Christian Hefenbrock and really and truly what class we have this year!!
The team is as follows: 1) Chris Holder (destined for world champion) 2) Davey Watt 3) Darcy Ward 4) Rafal Dobruki 5)Renat Gaforuv 6) Dennis Andersson 7) Christian Hefenbrock/Kyle Newman
The season for Poole starts at home next Wednesday (23/03/2011) with a friendly against Eastbourne and then the following special meeting!!
Of special interest to me personally is Poole's year 2000 'world champion' Mark Loram is having his farewell at Poole on the 30th and after a chat with him last week at a 'social' at the stadium, Mandy and I have agreed to sponsor Mark himself for his farewell meeting to which he seemed 'chuffed' to bits!!!

;D ;D ;D
don't bury our football field and enjoy your seat in the ex-PTF supporters club built stand!!
Q Why do so many Poole people still identify PTFC with THE Stadium as evidenced by Sterte' msg about folks wanting to pick up their semi final tickets there!!
Q Why, when this subject comes up in the Echo do many correspondents(not me!) berate Poole Council for not facilitating our return there'
Just asking

Dont worry expat the football field is still there albeit a fraction smaller but you can be assured that I bow and courtesy to it every time I enter the 'now' theatre of dreams in speedway terms anyway!! Oh, we stand on the first bend by the way! Incidentally Expat The last time I did sit in the stand was in 1994 but watching PTFC!!

Last night saw Poole's start to the 'Elite' league campaign with an away win over 'newcomers' Birmingham Brummies: 48-42 Onward now to Mark Loram's Farewell meeting tomorrow evening... Well done Pirates! I am hopeful of getting to the Pirates v Wolves match on 6th April Steve. There seems to be a dispute about silencer safety and a Polish rider has been ruled out from the Poole team because of it. I can understand safety issues but speedway wouldn't be the same without the din would it?
|
|
|
Post by dolphin47 on Mar 30, 2011 11:49:28 GMT
Brian, we had the same thought that speedway would not be the same without a good old din, but from experience at trackside there is NOT a lot of difference if anything the bikes are slightly quieter but it does not ruin the showcase at all!! Incidentally the Poles are in dispute because they feel they are unsafe due to catching fire??!! There has been no incidence of this happening!! The Polish rider (Rafal Dubrucki) has been 'sacked' and the team re-declared with Aussie Jason Doyle from the team last season taking his place. We will be at the Wolves match Brian so expect to see you there!! We will be in the usual place of the 'first bend'!!
