As requested/suggested on the Wimborne 'Live thread' tonight that I start a thread devoted to Railways/trains. I myself am a signaller on the railway and have been for the last 18 years. I joined straight from School onto the railway. Since then I have worked up the grades to where I am now, My main interest is the 'Class 47' with which I have worked wth all my railway career right up until 2002 when they were fazed out. I then through various freinds and contacts have become part owner of 6 of them. A link to my website: www.steve47005.fotopic.net/I would love to hear all the old stories/memories from anyone willing to talk about them.

steve..we share two great passions, PTFC and railways. I have a live steam layout and when travelling in North America seldom miss a visit to a preserved railway or station. take the double decker 10coach(soon to be 12) everyday into Toronto. Good luck in your class 47 endeavours.

Just had a quick look on your site steve47, fascinating stuff. I tend to go for steam railways. Swanage (when will the line reach Wareham?), North Yorkshire, Keighly & Worth Valley, East Lancs, East Sussex etc etc. There may be more interest in this than you thought.

I like Steam Railways Brian but at the end of the day it is what you remember I think. I grew up with my beloved Class 47's but I hasten to add that I did make it to 'Fireman' grade at Swanage Railway then left to persue my career on the 'big' railway. Right some breaking news for anyone interested? The first passenger train to traverse the Swanage branch since 1972 believe it or not is on Wednesday 1st April 2009 as follows. www.past-timerail.co.uk/index.php/the-purbeck-pioneer.html

Steve47 - You must have a big drive to park that in!
Perhaps when we get to play Man U at Old Trafford in the cup (next season), you can arrange the Football Special for us?

Steve, I'm more into cars and planes mainly but have slight memories of steam trains. I was taken back by this - Talking with someone recently I was amazed to hear of a NEW BUILD Loco has just been finished, The A1 class Tornado. Bloody amazing, and I'm sure its taking a route down south via the Waterloo line on February the 14th for a Valentines run. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jpXt7QX0NZM&feat... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/60163_Tornado

Was watching a Jeremy Clarkson programme the other day, and there is a guy in the States who bought a loco and the land and track to run it!!! Now that's an enthusiast.

London to Swanage direct on April 1st steve47! Either the line from Wareham to Corfe (or Worgret Junction to Corfe) must be in place which I didn't think it was the last time I was there or it's an April Fool. It certainly looks convincing on your link!

Brian, the line to Furzebrook (LPG) remained after closure but obviously the bit between Furzebrook and Norden was relaid in 2005ish and many movements have taken place already (ie) Loco movements including when my beloved 47635 came to Swanage: www.swanagerailway.co.uk/news369.htmBasically the 1st April 2009 will mark 27 years since the last 'Passenger' train went to/from Swanage.

This is wonderful Steve! I was told the line would have to be re-built from Norden to Wareham. I didn't realise the line was still intact to Furzebrook. Forgive my ignorance but where exactly IS Furzebrook? Is it on a branch line from Wareham or is it on the Poole - Weymouth line, or what?

Thanks Steve, sorry for being so stupid but I was misinformed some time back about the line from Norden. It's all clear now and it really is great news abot April 1st. The first of many more I hope.

Judging by the length of time it took to build and get operating, it must've been made for the MOD :-)

You need to settle this over a game of football ;D

Ha, I didn't realise there was rivalry between the steam and Deisel enthusiasts. You need to settle this over a game of football ;D Big style! I remember one occasion in particular when I was riding behind a 'Class 47' going into Reading station and a steam special headed by 4472 'Flying Scotsman' stormed by going towards the Berks and Hants route with a lot of 'Goggles' hanging outside the coaches all shouting abuse to myself and my cousin 'cos we were hanging out enjoying ourselves with our 'Diesel' Loco!

Sorry, but you should've spent your youths listening to SLF, The Exploited, 4Skins, and so on, this goody two shoes spotting stuff is not in keeping with the Red and White Barmy Army :-)
